I randomly stumbled upon this restaurant as I was looking for a place to grab lunch one day in Istanbul. Like many other restaurants, there was a staff member calling to passerbys and handing out brochures of the menu. I decided to give the place a try and was quite pleased :) I ordered a lamb piddler (lamb pizza) which... More

Great little restaurant that caters for a vegan. The vegetable tile was really tasty and had rice and bread to go with it. Ömer provided great service and banter. 5/5

Ive been to Istanbul many times. On each of trips ive visited Cafe Rumist. With an ideal location just around the corner to Topkapi Palace, this cafe is what you'd want to stroll down to, be it for a warm meal or just admiring beautiful cobbled streets of the old city while sipping tea. Omer's a great host and would suggest the most scrumptious Turkish dishes you didn't even know you were craving till... More

Many restaurants in Istanbul offer the same average food that make you regret ever being conned into going there. Not Cafe Runust. The food is like your mother cooked (which means it really is seriously good in a simply homely way) and the fantastic staff (multilingual funny friendly Omar especially) and ambience of this lovely little restaurant make it worth... I ate there a few times but I wish I had eaten there more than that. Coming from a city that prides itself on it's pizza, this place puts many of my hometown pizza joints to shame. Omer the host is incredibly entertaining and will make you feel like you've been friends forever. Try it before you are disappointed by... More

We went to Cafe Rumist after visiting Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. You do have to find the place by going through some side streets but it is well worth the effort.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
