Sokullu is situated on a charming street in Sultanahmet. We spent many afternoons at the restaurant watching passers-by, playing with the ever present street cats (all friendly) and making friends with the local shop owners next door. The food is excellent and the ambience extremely special. Do not miss this restaurant during your visit to Sultanahmet!

Very nice restaurant, near the blue mosque, but in a quiet street. We had kebab and grilled vegetables, both dishes tasteful and well done. The ambiance is charming, full of Turkish chandeliers. Reasonable price, about 20/25 TL a kebab. We enjoyed very much.

We visited Istanbul early Jan 2016 the first morning we woke up to 8 " of snow. After a hard days site seeing the Sokullu was the perfect restaurant close to our hotel. Warm, welcoming & great food, ask for the table next to the wood stove to be extra cost on cold nights

Our family is staying in the neighborhood and found this excellent restaurant. It has the feel of a lovely, welcoming family business. The service was superb. We had a plate of Turkish appetizers to start and then an assortment of dishes. Stand outs were the pot kebab (to die for) and the sea bream (fish). We will go back again.

Excellent quality for that price. The place was near our hotel and we usually had lunch there, it was much better than in popular restaurants in the downtown.

We had dinner and enjoyed it very much. The Turkish ravioli was good as was the shrimp casserole and the chicken shish kebob. The warm bread was also outstanding.

Staying in Grand Bazaar

Neighbourhood Profile
Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighbourhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.
