We stopped for lunch in Hocapasa, near the Hodjapasa dance theatre, on our way through to Topkapi palace. The guys are very helpful, even going across the way to get some rice especially for me as I can't eat bread. My partner-in-crime had been put off lamb meatballs because of the quality at the suada club a few days before... More

Old traditional style, if you are hungry, best meatball place. Strongly recommend. Little tiny cosy place. Friendly staff, warm welcome...

We stopped for lunch here a few weeks ago and had a great lunch of two plates of kofte, a big salad, a yoghurt, a big plate of bread and drinks for just over 30 lira. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. We left behind some items and came back later to find they had put these aside... More

Service was swift and attentive. The meatballs were succulent and tasty. It is not at all touristy. We walked from the Topkapi Palace - just follow the tram tracks down the hill.

This is the best place for a Turkish lunch of lamb kebabs, meatballs, fresh salad, loads of bread, mineral water and Turkish coffee from the past next door. About $10 per head. Staff are great. We went twice. Locals love it.

We loved eating on this street during our stay in Istanbul, particularly during the week days when it was bustling. Everyone eating here was ordering the kofte/meatballs - we both ordered these and each received eight delightful juicy tasty morsels. Fantastic! The meatballs were accompanied with onion and tomato which went very well, alongside a huge pile of delicious fresh... More

A very local and very tasty place, where the meat was juicy, nicely spicvced with a fresh salad. Though we had no common language, the service was very friendly and attentive, and included desert on the house. Good value for money.

Plastic tables in the street - simple short menu, but greeted with a smile, as much bread as you can eat - pretty good meatballs and lovely lamb.... Nothing more, nothing less - a great stop to fill up and watch the bustle of the street go by while munching on bread and meat...

I just found it while wandering around trying to escape a little from the touristic path. This place was full with locals. It is a simple place, ideal for a quick lunch. No protocols, no fancy tables, only a short list of dishes but all of them as typical as tasty. Helva, the dessert, is a must. Not easy to... More

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
