Super friendly service! Food was absolutely amazing! The chef was incredible blending traditional meals but made into innovative and yummy dishes. Even though we were full, we ended ordering several desserts to share because they all sounded amazing. My daughter said she thought this meal was like being a judge on Top Chef (a big compliment)! We would absolutely go back on a future trip to Jerusalem.

A true senatorial experience. Succulent aged choice beef cuts combined with gourmet Israeli cuisine. 1868 is known for their seasonally themed custom cocktails made from fresh squeezed fruit juice and fresh herb garnishes. The wine menu is equally as impressive. A collection of kosher wines from the beautiful mountains of Jerusalem.

Four of us ate dinner there. The service was excellent. The food was pretty good to very good. The portions were adequate, but not especially large. The filet steak was good but I have had a better one elsewhere. The meal included a couple of small appetizers with crackers. The wine list is very good, even without going to the cellar selections. A minor mix-up occurred because I had requested an indoor table but kept receiving messages that our table would be outside, where it would be hot. I had to call twice to be reassured that the message was incorrect and our table would be inside (which it was). The restaurant is run as a very fine one, which it was.

I am a vegetarian, and at the restaurant they brought me a first course with meat instead of a vegetarian one - and told me about the mistake only after I had eaten. The staff behaved in an aggressive and shameful manner and showed no sensitivity at all to the situation. I left after I was unable to touch the food we received and they made me pay for everything except the specific dish they were wrong about even though I made it clear that I did not want to eat anything more. Very disappointing.

A once-great restaurant that has lost its way. The chef should be ashamed. The slow cooked lamb was nearly devoid of flavor. The skin of duck breast was soggy and covered with quills. Complete lack of attention to proper prep in a fine dining restaurant. When the chef was alerted to problems, he declined to visit the table

I very rarely write reviews because in this imperfect world, good days and bad days happen. However this must have been a very bad day. We had breast of duck with vegetables... tasteles, textureless. Even the accompaniement did not help in any way to bring out any good taste nor to enhance the special flavour of the duck. Definitely not the promised standard. The display of many first courses looked nice, but l only enjoyed one of the dishes. I did enjoy the various chocolate deserts. The service was Ok except it would have been nice if the waiter would have been more observant and tactful of the dynamics of the guests, instead of interrupting whenever bringing wine or changing dishes.

In the past I just love it. Today I have to say that it’s one of the most worst places to celebrate. I eat there outside yesterday. Right on the front(outside). It was so hot that I had to go from time to time inside to breathe. The service was not so good, I can leave with that, but the food was horrible. What qualities Ytzhak need to kill Foix gras or to make Sashimi tasty? The. Wine Yaakov Ouriah was drinkable not more. We ask for a steak it come burned, I think is a misunderstanding what means medium rare. The mineral water was great- Pelegríni. There a lot of more simple places, cheaper, and for sure tastier. Don’t even think about it.

What a gastronomic experience. This is NOT a cheap place but where the chef can take you is an unparalled journey. I had multiple courses and one was better than the next. My favorites are the hot dog, sweetbreads, tongue, and Japanese desert.

Great service, that's for sure (Although food took a long time to arrive). We ordered: Bread (they give three slices of random bread- Not satisfying) Sweetbreads (tiny dish), Some weird tomato Salad (not tasty at all, not satisfying). 3 orders of Beed Filet (TINY dish, So happy I ordered a double main dish). The Beef Filet was amazing, but again very small and not satisfying if you get the regular size dish. No French fries, and generally a very limited menu. Bottom Line: Make sure you eat BEFORE You come here to eat, when you arrive you will taste some yummy (main dish) food. I wish I knew this prior to coming :(

A friend and I enjoy seeking out high level dining experiences in Jeruslaem. Our latest was an evening at the 1868 Restaurant on King David Street. Taking the recommendation of another friend we made reservations for an early dinner. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and given a choice of seating. Coming early meant having a wide selection and enjoying the quiet ambience of this historic bulding. Pedro was our main server and was delighful as well as informative. We had some tasty cocktails and our starters. I tasted the sweetbreads my firend ordered for the first time and enjoyed my sashimi. Feeling indulgent Pedro guided us in choosing the 950 gram bone in prime rib which proved to be succulent. Katrina helped us select a Cabernet Sauvignon that augmented the richness of the meat. Ending with a choclate mousse and an assortment of sorbets we were treated to a delicious dessert wine. Aviya and Yedudit rounded out the warm and knowledgable service. We were able to linger over our meal and converse in the mellow quiet of this exquisite restaurant. While ideal for a special occasion upon leaving we met a traveler staying nearby who was eating all his meals there over the course of two weeks. That tells you all you need to know!

Hi. I am a very frustrated customer. My husband and I received a gift certificate for 1868 during Corona. We were so happy and excited to come as we have heard wonderful things about you. I was shocked that the expiration date was only for a year especially during the height of CORONA. The whole time of the gift certificate was during the worst time of CORONA. I have received and given many gift certificates to restaurants and they are usually good for many years. I have one now that is good until 2024 that I got last year. During the whole time of Corona and the gift certificate I did not go out anywhere as trying to keep safe. I have elderly parents that I see often and didn't want to endanger them in any way. It is absurd that you you are so unreasonable, especially during a time where life is very difficult and crazy. Finally, after life is hopefully returning to some sense of normalcy, I was so excited and called up recently to possibly come, assuming it would be no problem at all to come anytime and after arguing, I was told I can come until the end of the month. I asked to speak to the manager and of course, she said she was the manager without even passing me to anyone. As from past experience in any other place, they always say just come whenever is good for you, no problem. I was left with such a bad feeling and don't feel like coming at all and surely not recommending you to anyone. I am sure and hoping this is not indicative of your customer service. It is also so comical because I would probably spend double the price of the gift certificate. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. 0523844636 Hoping to hear from you soon

Dining was a great experience- we were tucked away in a corner table, buffered from noise and other diners- while the food was delish (and it was)... the waitress forgot two entre dishes and desert took over 55 min to arrive at the table... we enjoyed our leisurely meal but hadnt planned on a 3 hour dinner

This evening I took my wife out to celebrate our anniversary. This space at 1868 is beautiful, and with white tablecloths and premium prices, we expected a special experience. THE GOOD + The waiter was the best part of this restaurant. Attentive, caring, personable, just everything you are looking for. + The duck breast was succulent and moist, perfectly paired with sweet carrot puree and a sweet and savory salad. The plate had color, the dish had joy and life. + The bao buns were warm, the meat soft and savory, and the small fried layer across the bottom provided the perfect contrast. + Cocktails were also quite good. Portions were small, but this is par for the course at fine dining. and to be expected. THE BAD The ambiance, everything grilled and the deserts were disasters. - The music in the main restaurant was apparently the same selection as their bar in the back. It was some kind of trans or techno, and was playing far too loud, ruining the ambiance. When we asked the waiter to turn down the music, he agreed, it was way to loud. He turned it down, but a few minutes later, someone else it way up. Diners had to raise their voices over a bumping bass line. I didn't expect to have this much noise in a fine-dining establishment. - The water they brought to the table was consistently room temperature or warm. For a hot evening where we were seated outside, it would have been nice to bring cold water. But that's minor, compared to the disaster at the grill. - Everything grilled was just terrible. I ordered a medium rare grilled steak. It came VERY well done. Not a hint of pink, no juice from the meat across most of the cut. The entire steak was covered in heavy red wine and mushroom sauce (very 90s, but we can call it a classic and forgive). The cook on this meat was a disaster. One side was well charred, the other had no crust at all. Part of the meat had the texture of braised meat, and the other was tough rubber. I told the waiter there was an issue, he came back explaining that this is aged beef, so this is normal. After explaining that have extensive experience with aged beef, he left for the manager. After about 10 minutes of waiting, the manager came to ask if we were OK. At this point, the food had been out for 20 minutes, and my wife was nearly done with her dinner. I explained that this steak was well done. She rolled her eyes, brought it to the kitchen, and returned to tell me that it was how their chef does medium rare. Medium rare is a temperature and grilling is an application or technique. I expected more from them. I'm an avid amateur, but these are the basics. The manager had an attitude, and said that if I reordered the steak medium rare, it would come back the same way - because that's what they call medium rare. At this price, I was shocked. They were standing behind an error in the kitchen as a policy. - The Wagyu Burger - Following the steak disaster, I cut my losses and asked for the wagyu burger, medium (it's hard to mess up a wagyu burger - so much juices). Once again, it was clear that their grill chef was not on their game. The burger had a very thick, proper crust (good), was almost entirely grey across the middle (well done), and a tiny bit of deep red in the middle. This banding occurs when a grill chef doesn't know when to move from high heat to low heat cooking. This is not what I would expect for a 100 shekel, gourmet, mini-burger. The onion rings on top were also devoid of onion (even my less foody wife said tried it, and remarked that there didn't seem to be any onion). At this point, I gave up on the chef. My wife had been done eating for about 20 minutes, and I didn't want to ruin our evening out. - The dessert was... not quite great. We had a very forgettable chocolate mouse, three ways. The only enjoyable part of the dish was a not-quite frozen coffee ice cream. The flavor was amazing, though it was already melting and nearly liquidy soft when it arrived at the table. Non-dairy ice cream is a challenge and it was a hot night, I could forgive that if the rest of the dish was up to par. Nearly every part of this dish needs refinement, from the brown on brown on brown color, to the lack of texture, the lack of nuance, flavor and creativity across the plate.
