Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I had lunch here during our holiday in Yangon, Myanmar. This restaurant is unique due to its architecture, photo collection on the walls and historical significance. The food was tasty. Service was okay.

Historically it was quite fascinating to visit this architectural remnant of the commonwealth - we visited as part of a small organised tour of Myanmar. The building itself is in good condition and nicely preserved, situated up a short hidden driveway from a main road...so you need to have good directions or an informed taxi driver to get you there. Inside and upstairs you can wander at your leisure around the former office of General Aung San (father of the Nation) and imagine him sat at his desk with his typewriter still in situ. Numerous photographs of him during his time in power adorn the walls and there is a strong and obvious resemblance to his daughter Aung San Suu Kyi. The building retains its colonial charm including a bath in the gent's toilets (honestly) and is well suited to its new role as a restaurant. However, this is where the charm ends - simply chaotic, slow and dismissive service, cold food (sent back twice for re-heating) and when at temperature there was very little taste in the uninspiring food - very disappointing. There is a clear and obvious need for better organisation, improved processes for taking orders for food/drinks, staff training and overall customer service. We were very disappointed and left disenchanted after what could have been a good House of Memories for us but sadly way below expected standards for our lunch.More

Interesting history of Gen Aung San and nice meal to go with it. A bit much with the mosquitoes ( even with all of the geckos around ). Lamb curry and beef curry were done well. Don't forget to take a pic at the General's...desk.More

This restaurant has an interesting historical background and seemed to be popular with tour groups. We had a set price menu with some options and the food was very good. The service was somewhat slow but we were getting used to that in Myanmar. The...food was all local and generally very good.More

As other reviews say, a double fronted faux Elizabethan house style probably from the early 20th century. We hot our hotel to book a table...just as well as it was popular! There are tables in ground and first floors as well as in the garden....The historic room which was General Aung San's office during his fight for Burmese independence from the British just after WW2 is on the first floor complete with his desk, chair, typewriter and photos from the time. Normal Myanmar menu choices of food and drinks at prices just slightly higher than usual...which is fair enough for the uniqueness.More

One-minute walk along an alleyway from the busy traffic, one can see the beautiful colonial style house which has been running as restaurant for a while, the interior fit-out and decoration are still very much in its original shape - no modern lighting, painting or...furniture. The food is somewhat modified local food to suit foreign visitors. there is a room reserved for visitors to have a glance of the Office of the late General Aung San, which has been largely preserved in its original shape.More

We came here out of respect of history and review on TripAdvisor, but as somewhat disappointed. Yes, the history is great and all, but as a restaurant, the food about 1 star out of the two given. It’s bland, the curry beef demand a good...set of teeth to chew. The minced fish ok and chicken curry is below average, and the rice is soggy. The place is a restaurant, history gimmick is not going to last long if the food quality continues this way. Also, we came here with no reservations here, when we asked for the air conditioned inside, they say it’s fully booked, so we have sit outside have to deal with mosquitoes and saw noises. But when European couples complained, they are moved inside and another European complained, he was also moved inside, that does make you think about prejudice issue against fellow Asian.More

I am not a fun of Myanmar Food Restaurants for the tourist especially due to authenticity as they used to mixed with other cooking style to attract the tourists. Couples of months ago, I was surprised by the foods they served as it's really good...so I brought my VIP guests on yesterday whose requested Myamar food dinner. Foods are just so so and seafoods are no more fresh. What a pity! Anyway, I like the building.More

Offers very good food and a full bar in a more upscale environment. We had a very nice meal there for 13 and they handled the large group well. It is a bit off the main drag so take a cab or use your GPS...to get there.More
