Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our group of four persons had a fantastic dining experience at Kohaku. Joe and Julia did a fantastic job attending to our orders and serving us. Food was good and the pricing was very reasonable. Joe helped us to take many photos after dinner. All in all an experience to remember.

I took the AYCE option, so I expected a buffet. But instead, they give you a special menu and you can order as much as you like off the menu. Less waste that way, I suppose. In the end, the food is also more fresh since it's all made to order. A few small negatives: beer is $6 extra, only packaged fruit juices available (not fresh squeezed), and a few disappointing uses of inferior ingredients in their AYCE menu - like Australian beef instead of Japanese, and artificial crab in their "crab" sushi. That last one is just a cardinal sin that should not appear on the table of any decent Japanese restaurant. Overall though, it was good. You can get things like fresh sashimi, chawanmushi, grilled butterfish, beef tataki (albeit with Aussie beef), and they understand the difference between a proper tempura and just any old breaded crust unlike most restaurants in Myanmar.

We choose Kohaku Japanese Restaurant for my daughter's birthday dinner as she loves to eat Japanese food. Although it is buffet dinner, the food hasn't displayed as usual but we can order whatever we want from the menu. Food is very delicious especially beef and sashimi, super fresh and tasty. Grilled snow fish and gyoza is my younger daughter's favourites. We also satisfy with the service of professional skillful Manager and waitresses, Julia and Susan. They are friendly, polite and helpful and good communication skills. Fantastic knowledgeable service.

Whilst staying at the Chatrium hotel for my fight this June, my girlfriend and I are at this restaurant, the food was absolutely amazing! The ebi tempura maki was by far my favourite, and my girlfriend loved torikatsu. But everything we ordered was spectacular. The only thing that was a little poor was the service could be a bit slow at times. But the taste of the food definitely made up for it. 100% would recommend if you ever visit this location

I had the chance to dine in 2 or 3 times. The second time I was greeted by a very mindful waitress Julia with "welcome back". Sushi was fresh, the Ramen tasted delicious, desert just the right amount- and they'll offer to take away the always satisfactory dishes. Thank you for the great experience!

Kohaku Japanese restaurant is one of the restaurants I dined in while staying at the Chatrium Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar. The restaurant space is modern and stylish with space between tables being very generous. There is also an outdoor dining area which is where I chose to dine to enjoy the music playing at the Lobby Lounge. The wait staff wear Kimono and other Japanese style attire. The service is exceedingly attentive and with a pleasant smile. The menu is expansive, offering dishes to satisfy a discriminating palate. The staff was very diligent in recommending dishes that fit my dietary needs and safe for my gluten allergy. I let staff know that was interested in having soup for dinner but none of the ones offered on the a la cart menu fit my diet. The staff went to speak with chef and returned with the good news that a special gluten free soup could be prepared for me. Meanwhile she brought me cut fruits to eat while I waited for the meal. The soup was delicious.

We ate dinner here for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was a good choice. There was no buffet set up but it was an eat all you can base on ala carte menu to include drinks and dessert. We prefer this way so the food is newly cooked and fresh every time. Some selections were not included but still a lot of options to choose from including beef, bamboo shellfish and snow fish/codfish. Sashimi and sushi were very fresh. Julia and the Manager were very nice and accommodating. Their English was good and they went out of their way to make our dining experience special.

A bit pricey under Burmese standards but probably reasonable under Western standards. None of us had the sushi but all the cooked dishes we had, like the japanese curry, tempura, udon noodle were very good- felt very authentic japanese cooking.

There is the buffet that you can enjoy fresh seafood such as fresh sashimi, sushi and beef including fruit and desserts at an affordable price. There is also a la carte menu for those who want a simple meal. If you want to enjoy various Japanese dishes in Yangon, do not hesitate to visit. The food is great and the staff at the restaurant, especially Julia and Joe, will give you a fantastic experience.

Just arrived to Chatrium Hotel and it was raining. Decided to have lunch at one of the 3 restaurants here. To my surprise there was a set lunch at USD 10 nett. Superb service staff that speaks good English plus the food is fresh and tasty. Definitely worth the money spent! Thumbs up.
