Bonjuk Myeongdong is local chain of healthy traditional slow cooked rice porridge dishes. I have been there many times. Enjoy the yummy and hearty food as well as fast service and smiles. My favorite one is the Samgye Bonjuk which is the chicken ginseng porridge with vegetables.

Me and my friend love porridge so this was a must. We came after lunch hour so it was empty and seats aplenty. Service was prompt and we got our food pretty fast. The serving was more than sufficient for one person. It comes with a side of kimchi, shredded beef and chilli. I had the seafood porridge which was... More

the fav meal of my Autumn / Winter trip.... As Bonjuk doesnt use MSG (it says natural, healthy food), the food might taste a bit on the bland side. But its worth its 9,500won price tag for the Seafood porridge. Each bowl has on average 3-4 oysters, 4-5 prawns and a handful of clams and other shellfish inside. Porridge is... More

Found the serving staff a little brisk, otherwise the porridge is pretty staple. Good when you need a break from the grilled meats!

During the super cold winter, porridge was the best comfort food, and the porridge here was super good. The only thing was that they made us order at least 4 bowls for a group of 5, we weren't allowed to share 3 bowls amongst the 5 of us. As my friends weren't big eaters, 4 bowls were a bit too much... I had the seafood porridge here and it was very good. It was a nice change to all the spiciness in all other Korean foods. The portion was very generous and it came with a handful of side dishes.

Bonjuk is a chain and the same food can be found in any of the Bonjuks in Korea. Got the veggie porridge but the banchan is came with was the same banchan as the people who got non veggie porridge. Would be nice if they offered only veggie banchan for people who order veggie porridge. The banchan comes in packages... More

I've had a few juks here that were nice, but, ten thousand won for a bowl of mushy, sometimes tasteless porridge is a bit much I think. I think this is one type of food that can be more appreciated by Korean people that foreigners maybe as it's slow food with "delicate" tastes...and by delicate, I mean...kinda bland lol. If... More

Both my husband and I like juk on a cold winter's day, or when sick. It's basically the same idea as chicken soup back home, but it's korean style (porridge). Be aware that different franchises will have different quality though!

Staying in Myeongdong / Namdaemun

Neighbourhood Profile
Myeongdong / Namdaemun
Arguably Seoul’s most famous neighbourhood and undoubtedly one of its most popular, Myeongdong takes shopping and eating to new heights, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, and cafes all stacked on top of one another. The rise in popularity of Korean cosmetics, fashion, and more has made this area a must-see for visitors who come and marvel at Myeongdong’s often frenetic pace and energy. Lotte and Shinsaegae’s massive department stores are also popular draws for both Korean and luxury products. The department stores, just like Myeongdong’s streets, are crowded around the clock. Myeongdong’s many street food carts are also immensely popular for their inexpensive and quirky offerings (French-fry-encrusted corn dogs, anyone?). The neighbourhood’s popularity, as well as its close proximity to other popular sights and neighbourhoods, makes it one of Seoul’s most popular places to stay.
