It's not just the koshary but the atmosphere and the service that makes this the most famous koshary in Cairo. It is delicious. More lemony flavor than tomato which I like, but you can make the sauce how you like. Fun to have the staff mix the sauce table side to get the show. A must do if in Cairo for a few days.

If you are near the Egyptian museum you must take the 5 mins to walk over. Cheap, fast, the guys speak English. No official menu though. Rice pudding is legit, the koshary small size is enough for anyone (15 pounds) and for an extra 5 pounds an item you can order the "special" meaning you get extra tomato sauce, chickpeas, onions and lime. Splurge and get the special size.

Great value for money. They serve only one dish and the Koshary is a brilliant dish made of noodles, rice and lentils with two sauces. Its a vegan dish. The walk to the restaurant is not too great as you walk through the auto repair workshops market, but very worth it. It tasted great and the service was fast and efficient. Would highly recommend.

Visited last day of our trip after reading lots of good everywhere, even our driver recommended and without any doubt was worth, not to be miss. Situated in downtown, just few min walk from Egyptian museum. We arrived around 4 pm ,that was not crowded and easily got the seat on 1st floor, they have 3 more floors,it's clean and service is fast, have to pay in advance and within 5 min Koshary package was at our table,go for special one, very reasonably priced, after the meal don't forget to have their another famous rice pudding.

We were visiting the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square and came here for lunch. The koshary is out of this world - we had to have seconds! For those who don't know what it is - it is an Egyptian street food made with rice, pasta, lentils, chickpeas, caramelised onions, garlic and tomato sauce. You can also add hot sauce to your taste. It is great if you are vegetarian / vegan or simply want a quick and cheap meal. You can just walk and grab a table.

You wouldn't believe that this is a Koshary restaurant but a cafeteria or a fish restaurant. But no, they only serve Koshary, one of the most famous egyptians meals! The ground floor is mainly for take away, although the also have a few tables. As you go up, 1st, 2nd floors, it becomes more a formal restaurant, with waiters takin your order (drinks, how many kosharis and any special addons, that I strongly recomend). We liked it so much that we were there for dinner in two differen ocasions. Delicious food! It is very cheap and the portions are so big the, you may prefer to share your other, although the locals take it full.

Extremely famous and popular Koshery, with suited people and humble clients alike. Service was extremely friendly and asked a few times how the food was etc, and made a demonstration on how to eat it and "dress" it. It loses one star for two reasons: I would have liked more tomato sauce, and also because we asked for two small and god two medium portions that were gigantic. The mahalabiya was very good too

In Cairo, we stopped by for a late lunch/early dinner. I had never heard of koshary so was wondering if I'd like it or could even eat it, since I don't eat meat. I was glad to know it is vegetarian. It is a bed of a couple types noodles, with chick peas and lentils, topped with fried onions—quite simple really. Then, you pour a red tomato sauce over the top. But let me tell you, this is no ordinary tomato sauce! I don't know what spices are in it, but I must say it was amazing. If you want, you can add a very spicy red pepper sauce and/or garlic oil to the mix. The dish didn't need it and I was loving the red sauce flavor as it was, so I only spiced it up once I was almost done. It was a large portion and very satisfying. Driving in Cairo is unbelievable and the traffic in this area was kind of scary. So, catch a taxi and let the driver navigate the craziness of the road—but definitely eat here! They only have one dish: but the fact that there were no open tables on the four floors of the restaurant, with people waiting for a table on every floor, is proof that they only need one dish. It's that good!

We ate at Abu Tarek on our last night in Cairo. I was desperate to try Koshary and wasn’t disappointed. We visited during Ramadan and arrived not king after the fast had broken for the evening. The restaurant was very busy and full of local people, which was a great sign. We were ushered up to the third floor and met by Ayman. He asked if this was our first Koshary experience and discovering it was insisted he show us what to do and for me to video him. It was such a great experience, she showed us exactly what to do, without his help we wouldn’t have had a clue. The end result was an outstanding dinner, the best of our two week trip all over Egypt. Delicious food and at 400 Egyptian Pounds (£4.30) an absolute bargain for the Koshary and fresh juice, we were also given a complimentary dessert to take away, worth every penny. If you go to Cairo you are missing out if you don’t dine here at least once.

This place really lived up to all the hype. The service is impeccable and the fashion and style they present the food is simply enjoyable. We never had koshary before and it was really delicious. They will give you spices at the side to adjust to taste. We also tried the "Om Ali" dessert from here and that also hit the spot. The price is very cheap since we had heard that Koshary was invented for the working class people as a cheap and good healthy meal. A must do when in Cairo.

This Restaurant considered as one of the best restaurants in Koshary, in the city of Cairo. There are plenty of dish sizes, so you must know how much hungry you are. The prices are average, and must be paid in advance.

Came here with a tour guide. We had to get the Koshary experience and it was awesome. The restaurant is super nice and very family friendly. There are fish tanks to keep the kids entertained and a floating pool of balls for them to play with. The food is excellent. Waiters will come over and put on a show preparing your koshary meal. There are many locals here and the prices are great. Food was excellent and I highly recommend a visit.

This has been my favorite meal so far. The kushari comes in small, medium or large and is the only thing on the menu. You pay ahead of time and our meal was 69 LE. We paid with a 100 LE note and were never given our change, which we planned to leave for a tip anyway. Our server showed us how to best make up our meal using the condiments on the table and it was delicious. I love their tomato sauce and the garlic we added that was on the table. Dessert was a rice pudding. Highly recommend eating here!

A trip to Cairo would not be complete without a visit to Koshary Abou Tarek. Eating koshary is a must while in Egypt, but eating koshary at Abou Tarek is an experience in an of itself. The manager and all the staff will make sure you are treated perfectly, helping you order and make the most of your eating experience.

Our first visit to Cairo, we had heard of this establishment as made famous by a number food Vloggers; during our lunchtime visit the place was very busy with both tourists and locals alike. Our waiter was courteous and polite, and showed us how to create our koshary masterpiece, of course with the proviso that a healthy tip was to follow. I'm an avid meat-eater, but was surprised on how tasty and filling this food was, also very reasonably priced, albeit that the establishment want you to pay up front for the meal. One slightly disappointing issue that arose, we visited for a second time during our stay and actually ordered less food the second time around (based on the portion sizes) but were charged more than our first visit???? Go figure??? I strongly feel we were ripped-off on our second visit, but without any menus or pricelist you left quite vulnerable. One positive is that due to the popularity of the restaurant, they have a very high turnaround of food, so mostly its fresh and prepared immediately. All in all a visit to Cairo is not complete without a visit!
