The entire Stanley Hotel is like stepping back in time. The lobby is elegant and refined as it must have been over 100 years ago. We had our safari farewell dinner here in the cafe and it was quite relaxing. The bar area is comfortable and surprisingly quiet although it fronts on a bustling Nairobi thoroughfare. Our food was very... More

For those with any sense of history, travel or romance, the Thorn Tree is a terrific institution. Attached to another Nairobi perennial, The Stanley Hotel, the Thorn Tree is a great place to duck into to rest from the Nairobi hubbub and eat, drink or catch-up with friends. The third generation thorn tree still has a message board and the... More

Such a joy to see the Thorn Tree cafe again after 22 years. It felt like seeing an old friend again. OK, so the old thorn tree died and a new one was re-planted, and yes, they appear to have built all around it now, whereas in the past the hotel was more open at one side. But the place... More

Ate breakfast here daily as it was included in our rate - pretty extensive selection, although if you are a vegetarian you would certainly find it a bit more limited. There was an egg station and plenty of food - the Indian influence is evident here, with a few items with a distinctive curry flavor, even at breakfast. The street... More

Food OK, prices reasonable (around $12 for a main course, $4 for a Tusker beer) and there is a spindly acacia tree in the courtyard surrounded by ugly bulletin boards. Best to order Indian food, I think, it was quite good.
