Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Look up Vegetarian dining articles in Hong Kong and you will regularly find mention of The Woodlands TST branch. This is probably one of Hong Kong's very best overall vegetarian restaurants that has been faithfully serving the community for over 3 decades in the TST...area. You will find The Woodlands on UG level of the Wing On Plaza just outside TST MTR Station exit P on Mody Road. They are open from 11.30 to 3.30pm (lunch) and 6pm to 10.30pm (dinner) and are worth making reservations during peak meal times as they are often full up with patrons waiting outside to be seated. We have been coming to The Woodlands fairly regularly in recent years when seeking healthy dining in the TST area. Service is friendly, polite and timely and food served up is consistently very good. Their Thalis are great and good serving size. We also like their samosa, vada pav, Gobi Manchurian, Chili Paneer. They do proper rice and naan and have a nice selection of veg curries. Madras filter coffee and Masala tea taste like they are supposed to as well. Importantly, prices are reasonable and food portions are good size, leaving you full and happy when you leave. Woodlands is well worth giving a try if you are seeking vegetarian, vegan or just healthy dining here in Hong Kong. While I personally prefer this original branch, they have another place in Wanchai that is also quite good. This might be a more convenient location if staying on HK Island.More

Ordered home delivery. Food quality since 1981 has been the same, quality similar to McDonald perfection…..Unfortunately, this time I ordered home delivery. The quantity for vegetable dish is too less for HKD 75.00 and the quantity for rice is very generous, it does not match....The vegetable dish needs to match the quantity of vegetables given. Disappointed with their portion size for home deliveries, it’s not value for money!!More

Fantastic vegetarian food. Service was lovely. Vegan options available with a dedicated menu. Everything we tried there (twice at dinner time) was delicious. The dosa tacos were delicious

Good food with Good service and the price is also competitive. For all the vegetarians (specially Indians) this place is better than all other nearby restaurants like Sangeetha Restaurant which just next to woodlands.

Nice place, although not too spacious. There are many choices, they offer filtered water for free. I ordered North Indian Thali which was delicious. My problem was the waitress: she was constantly coughin without mask, and even i have seen more times to cough into...the food while serving!! Thats why i give 3 stars only. TERRIBLEMore

Excellent service. The buffet was all vegetarian. The food was tasty. The place was clean and the ambience nice. The best had to be the mango lassi.

I am a regular customer of Woodlands TST and I love the food there. When the opening of the Wanchai branch was announced, I was looking forward to not having to travel to TST from HKG island. However, the experience was very devastating. We hoped that...the next order will be better from the Lemon tea to the Ras malai. We had North Indian Thali, and palak paneer and the dal had no salt. Dahi Wada had no sweet sauce. The Filling in the masala dosa was bland. lastly, we hoped that they would not go wrong in the dessert but this was also extremely disappointing. The Ras malai was like a sponge, dry and like plastic. We paid 856 HKD and got no value for the cost.More

Woodlands has been our go to place for Indian vegetarian meals in recent years. This branch at Wing On Plaza in TST East is conveniently located just outside MTR Exit P1, making it easy to get to from most places around the city. They have...separate seating times for lunch (11.30-3pm) and dinner (6-11pm). Reservation for evening and weekend seatings are highly recommended. It is fairly routine to pass by and find the restaurant full up with people waiting outside to be seated. We very much like the thali sets at Woodlands. These are good portion size, plenty of curry bowls and bread to feed a couple of people each. Other orders that we regularly enjoy here are the samosa, vada pav for starters and the delicious Chilli Panner and Gobi Manchurian. These are both flavourful dishes that taste very good. Service is friendly and they are happy to help you with orders if needed. Note: Woodlands has just opened up their second branch on Luard Road in Wanchai, taking over the Khana Khazana used to be. This will make a great contribution to the food scene on the other side of the harbour. Now you won't have to cross over to TST to eat at Woodlands.More

We made the mistake of staying for the (very speedy) meal after spotting a cockroach near our table…my father warned me “if you see one, there are likely others”. And needless to say we saw more, one time we pointed it out to the waitress...there were two just below the next table she just shrugged as if to say “so what” and ignored them. If that’s the dining area, god knows the state of the kitchen. Never going back! Shameful cleanliness and the manager looks disinterested in everything.More

We were 9 of us and let the manager prepare the menu, we simply asked him to prepare a selection of their best dishes and also mentioned that one of us was celiac. With big surprise they came with a selection of remarkable dishes, paired...with the same but without gluten! Needles to say the staff was very friendly and helpful, they allowed us to stay longer despite they were basically already closed for the afternoon break. Highly recommended!More

Ok so let’s be honest. The food is not bad but because there is a dearth of good Indian vegetarian restaurants especially ones that do dosas Woodlands stands out. The food can be good one day & mediocre another day. Today the paper masala dosa...was outstanding. In the past the sambhar had a burnt bitter taste but today it was good. But who in God’s name puts chutney & filling in the puris for pani puri & then serves it to you at your table? Never in my 50 odd years of eating pani puri have I encountered such utter disregard for a dish. The puris were soft & soggy by the time they arrived & when we added the water they just disintegrated!!! Who in God’s name came up with that? The staff were nice but the manager there is such a sour puss. I’ve never seen him smile. Hope he’s not the poster boy of how vegetarian food is suppose to make you feel. Cheer up for God’s sake man. Make it a happy place.More

Woodlands Restaurant in Hong Kong was established in the 1980s by 2-3 South Indian gentlemen The quality of the food was authentic South Indian. The ownership of the Restaurant has changed hands. First, we ordered Dahi Vada (Savoury lentil donut in yoghurt). This dish had...plenty of sugar in the yoghurt which perhaps makes it easier to sell. Second, Idli/Vada Sambar - (Idli, steamed rice cake, and Vada is Savoury lentil donut). Both these items turned out to be stale and lacked the quality of authentic South Indian food. This dish is served with Sambar, a soupy lentil dish with some vegetables like drumstick/pumpkin, etc., with coconut chutney and tomato chutney. The Sambar served was like tomato paste with hardly any taste of lentils, and again with sugar. Similarly, we could not taste any coconut in the Coconut Chutney. Third, Masala Paper Dosa - Customers who have been to this restaurant will know what it is. This was crispy and better quality, but again, the Sambar and the Chutneys served with it were of poor quality. One staff who was serving us (thanks to him) noticed our dislike of the Sambar and the chutneys, he then served us an alternative to Sambar, called Rasam, Which was better. Those non-Indians who have not had the opportunity of tasting authentic South Indian food may find these dishes tasty. Perhaps this is commercial success. But for the connoisseur, there may be other places to try .......More
