Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The lineups are a tad long but they move relatively fast. The sourdough egg tart is what they are famous for but I personally love their salted egg bolo bun the most. They are filled with salted egg custard and it's divine!

I LOVE THE CRUSHED AVOCADO TOAST Bakehouse is a must-go cafe for breakfast in Hong Kong. Staying in Wanchai area, I decided to meet a friend for breakfast at this cafe. Be advised: GO EARLY. There will be a queue to dine in at this...small cafe. I ordered a Flat white and crushed avocado toast and my friend ordered mushroom tartine. The portions are decent and the toasts are tasty. The yolk of my pooched egg could have been more runny. My friend also ordered croissants to try and I must say the croissant is light and buttery, just the type I like. Overall, my friend and I enjoyed our breakfast there.More

The eggs tarts are SOOO good. They taste like a little custard on the inside and crisp and flaky on the outside! The best I’ve ever had. All their pastry is yum to perfection !

bakehouse introduced a couple of new Christmas products this season, offering German lebkuchen (gingerbread style cookies) and Italian panettone (fruitcake) at their branches throughout the city. The lebkuchen was excellent, lightly glazed surface, soft inside with notable cinnamon, spice, honey, bit of orange. Just great...Christmas flavours all the way around. We ended up buying these several times at various bakehouse branches this December. The panettone was fair, nicely baked with good ingredients but a bit dry compared to traditional panettone you can buy at Italian food shops around the city as well as CitySuper. Of important note, with tourists back in HK in high numbers, bakehouse branches are regularly sold out of their now famous sour-dough egg tarts as early as 1pm in the early afternoon. I've encountered this problem fairly regularly during the back half of the year. At the Wanchai and TST branches they offer to sell those being baked at the counter if you can come back in 30-60 minutes and pick them up at that time. Simply had your receipt at the counter and they will give the order to you upon arrival. No need to stand in the queue again.More

The Wanchai store was the first Bakehouse in Hong Kong. I come here on average 2 to 3 times per week since they opened several years ago. I only buy takeaway food. Taste is great, I only don't like the prezels as they don't taste...authentic. The famous egg tarts are delicious. But I mostly buy fresh bread (seeded sourdough or walnut and fig bread) early morning. Very disappointing: Starting October 2023 the quality of the seeded sour dough went down. It is no longer fresh. So far on 4 separate occasions the bread was still completely frozen when I arrived at home. Two of these times I went back to exchange it but the others were frozen too. So they gave me a walnut bread loaf instead. The other two times I heated up the bread in the toaster... Maybe they cannot hold up the quality as more and more outlets open in Hong Kong.More

All the pastries and dine in food are up to standard. The staffs all super friendly and the cafe itself is super clean. Highly recommended if you’re into pastries.

I stumbled upon Bakehouse at Central after a dim sum lunch. So I ordered a sourdough egg tart. The sourdough egg tart is very yummy; just superb. There was a queue but it moved fast.

The rating system allows me either to rate 3 stars for average or 4 stars for very good. This bakery place is good but not very good. We ordered 2 piccolo - the presentation & taste was good. But one was served hot and the...other was lukewarm - does it really take a long time to make a piccolo such that a hot piccolo will turn lukewarm while waiting for another to be made? The egg tart is good - can try it at least once though pricey. The sourdough waffle was just average - a bit moist to wet for our taste. Service is very good though and the seats were comfortable.More

So good we came here 2 days in a row. Foodies from New York and found this place to be truly exceptional for breakfast. Favorite dish: carmelized brioche French toast with marscapone and crème Anglaise and blackberries. It’s like having a hint of crème brûlée...with breakfast. Also loved the perfectly prepared salmon eggs Benedict. And the pastries!! Yuzu cream donut! Seriously 6 out of 5 stars - would go again but we already left Hong Kong.More

Tried their signature egg tart. Taste was good, not too sweet. However, not something too outstanding for me but it’s worth a try. Went at 5pm and queued roughly 5-10mins.

Best sourdough egg tarts ever - crunchiness on the outside, the caramelly burnt taste just nice at the top of the egg custard, would suggest to buy the box of 6 straight and visit in the early morning as they tend to run out fast...on the day.More

Portuguese egg tart known to be good. Had to queue to buy some to try. Not cheap but the tarts are really great. Had since gone back few times to buy as the family loves them. Excellent to pair the tarts with a cup of...their long black or flat white coffee for afternoon tea.More
