Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were delighted to find La Yunta, just down the street from my daughter's apartment. Not only was the food good but service and the atmosphere were excellent. There is an area around the dining portion of the restaurant where they sell items made by...local artisans. All of our experience was favorable and we recommend La Yunta.More

Rather a large establishment combining restaurant and store for local products. The store has assortment of locally made kitchen pottery, outdoor/indoor decors, woodwork (tables, chairs, cabinets), etc. the restaurant is in the central area, with a full bar. The menu is on the large side,...one needs to study a bit. It has several lists Ecuadorian/South American entrees, several Euro-inspired selections. Unfortunately, there were vegs entrees as they were out of supplies due to the ongoing strike/barricades at that time… But, we enjoyed the braised chivo (goat) and fish/chips. Service was very good.More

I’m so happy I found my comfort food! Everything I’ve eaten here is delicious. It tastes homemade, typical of the region and at the same time healthy. Service is excellent, especially by Jose, a young gentleman who always makes us feel welcome. Sole extends excellent...hospitality and makes sure the grounds look beautiful.More

A friend joined me for an early dinner and we both ordered the chicken pot pie. It was too salty to eat and the side vegetables were overcooked and tasteless. The potatoes were very good. Service was poor. I mentioned that the chicken pot pie...was not edible to the wait person and the cashier and the cashier said I know. They didn't apologize or offer to adjust the bill. We won't be back.More

I was in the area, needed to get lunch and dropped in. Had a costly bowl of locro de papaas which was good. Had been to the earlier incarnation of La Yunta near a highway in Tarqui, maybe? Not impressed by so MUCH STUFF for...sale.. It is kind of claptrap, if you get what I mean. Greetings by staff, new staff were mixed but they did their best. Won't bother to go here again. It is TOO mucho turismo. Not my style.More

Just had another great experience at La Yunta. Took a walk and stopped in for cappuccinos and dessert. Their Suspiro Fresas is awesome. I've had it each visit and can hardly wait till the next opportunity. Strawberries, ice cream, whipped cream and meringue. Delightful!

My wife and I hope you made it this far down the list for restaurants in Cuenca. Your search needs to go no further as La Yunta Restaurante is definitely one of 'the' best places to eat in the city, and it is very affordable....If you are visiting the city, and staying in El Centro, hail a taxi to the southwest side of the city to the restaurant's new location at Av Primero de Mayo y Fray Gaspar de Carvajal. Ecuadorian Soledad and English husband Jim moved to this historic adobe hacienda in 2019. They added a skylight over the courtyard, and have done a fantastic job with indoor landscaping of succulents, jade plants, and numerous flowering plants. It is a great place to relax, unwind, and enjoy good food. We have been to La Yunta several times. Every time we have been here has been so good that we have spent several hours at our table. The latest was today where my wife and I came on a Sunday afternoon to find the place hopping. We sat in the courtyard with all of its plants. We grazed with our drinks so we could enjoy the lovely day. Our cured meats were fantastic! There was a cured meat that reminded us of dried pastrami. Delicious! The Serrano Ham was cured perfectly. Many of Soledad's meals are based on her family's cooking. She has taken those family recipes, and added some flair to it. Everything we have had here so far has been very tasty and satisfying. On top of a great dining experience, you will have a lovely time in their tienda that is full of products from the province of Azuay. It will be very difficult to not buy something from their quality artwork to handcrafted items to dinnerware to home furnishings that are for sale throughout the restaurant. The displays are tastefully done to become part of the wonderful ambiance. If that is not enough, venture to the north side of the restaurant to visit Soledad's sister's little deli. She has some of the excellent cured meats we had today that are made somewhere between Cuenca and Quito. We have bought some hard-to-find food items here as well as some fantastic herb butter and truffle oil. There is a little bit of everything in this small shop. Spend the three bucks to get out of El Centro to have one of the best meals and experience in Cuenca. We love it so much that we walk the three miles from our apartamento all the time to be part of the La Yunta experience.More

Jim and Sole have reopened in a new location on Primero de Mayo between Ava. de Las Americas and The Parque de Recreo. This large facility offers a huge dining area surrounded by the handmade furniture, local handcrafted items, wine, honey, and other foodstuffs for...sale. Their menu includes traditional Ecuadorian dishes as well as an assortment of lamb, beef, and fish choices. Small snacks, soups and salads. Great desserts. Try the 'Strawberry Meringue'. It's absolutely delicious. Beer, wine and a full bar round out your dining experience. We were all very happy with our selections and will definitely go again....soon.More

Coming to La Yunta is a comprehensive experience. Not only will you find great food from their restaurant, but you can also spend quite a bit of time shopping in their adjoining store. Here you will find a large selection of Ecuadorian products that range...from decorative to practical: ornamental pieces as well as serviceable. Near the restaurant area, there are special food items that are difficult to find elsewhere. Another thing that Soledad de Gould specializes in is her ever expanding special events. Just this week we spent a half-day watching a chef from Restaurant Corvel in Paute create four different dishes using quinoa. Of course, we were treated to feast on each of the creations and were provided with jars of special herbs grown by the farmers of Paute. It is more than worth your time to contact La Yunta to see if any events are planned during your stay. They provide transportation from downtown Cuenca. Their fees are more than reasonable, but the experiences are immensely enjoyable.More

We had two meals here as part of day trips, one traditional Cuencan breakfast and one lunch. Both were delicious and the staff were friendly and accommodating.
