Very “rustic”, a bit grubby and 3 dogs running in and out of the restaurant whilst we were eating. The portions are very large and though the presentation is not sophisticated the food is good but not as cheap as expected based on its location...and appearanceMore

It was amazing. We got a tip on the best ceviche spot in Lima from a local. The restaurant is so unassuming from the outside but walking in, the futból craze is def in your face. Loved the vibe. We were told to show up...before 1p or the place gets packed. We showed up at 11a with no problems with seating but true to a local’s word, the restaurant was full and had people waiting outside by 1p. We ordered beers, ceviche, chaufa, pasta, and scallops. Everything tasted so good. I wish we could have gone back for seconds. Great location; quaint part of town and not far of a walk to the bridge of sighs and the murals. Come with some Spanish to help communicate with the restaurant staff.More

Stumbling into Canta Rana in search of the best ceviche was a stroke of luck. The outstanding hospitality set the tone for a remarkable experience. The vibe is chill, relaxing, and eclectic—a beautiful mix of locals, travelers, and returning customers. Speaking of which, returning patrons...insisted we share some of their favorite dishes, guiding us through the menu's highlights. The staff, with smiles that never faded, made the whole experience not just about food, but about the joy of shared moments. Canta Rana goes beyond exceptional ceviche; it's a place where flavors and friendships seamlessly blend.More

If you're in Barranco and fancy some decent food then definitely consider Canta Rana. The price was about average for a tourist hotspot but the portions were very generous, plus the food tasted really good. The cost was around s/50 for rice and shrimps, and...a large beer was around s/16...like I said, not bad for a tourist place. Plus the staff were very friendly and there is security patrolling around so we felt very safe here.More

I ate here the other day. The customer service was awful. The old lady in the cashier was very rude if you don't speak Spanish. The food servers were also busy with their phone or talking to each other. The food I order was rice...with seafood and it was mostly squid and just 1 piece of shrimp - not delicious. Taste bland but I was hungry since it was 3pm so i just ate some and left.More

We had lunch at this place in a nice outdoor space. Barranco is a nice buzzing area of lima and the restaurant is located in a very central spot. The ceviche was very tasty. I regret not being more hungry so we could try out...more dishesMore

I went with my family because of the good reviews it had online but was very disappointed. The food was bland with no consistency, salty, chewy and the portions were too big, I don’t have a memorable plate I can say was good. The rice...tasted like the cheapest one you can find, it didn’t look fresh. The waiter was apathetic, not friendly and barely checked on us. The restroom was in bad shape with a door that could barely close. There was no music at all nor white noise, you could listen to other people convos. The food is way overpriced, I’m Peruvian and I’ve had better quality food at affordable prices, I would not recommend this place and I wouldn’t be back. Looking at old pictures and showing famous people have been there is overrated. More

Waited 30 minutes to get a table and after eating I would have waited as long as it took. Food was fantastic, had ceviche, Tacu Tacu, scallops with parmesan and a delicious traditional dessert. A not miss in Barranco, or Lima for that matter.

We had a wonderful experience at Canta Rana; the staff very accommodating as I had senior parent in wheelchair. Food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Ordered fried calamari, ceviche, arroz con marisco/seafood rice, gilled octopus. Definitely the best seafood restaurant in Lima.

Typical Peruvian place with an extensive menu. When we went for lunch, we were the only gringos there. The cerviche was excellent. The chaufa, Salgado and everything was better than expected. Prices were reasonable

Great ceviche, make sure to try either the fish or mixed variety. We ordered 4 plates to share, it was enough for 5 with the free refill of beans.

We came back to this restaurant after 4 years and at that time we had a great experience but last week we were left dissapointed. While food was served fresh and remained high in quality, their prices were too high and the portions were small....We were charged 20 soles for a Leche de Tigre that was served in à very small glass. We couldn't believe it. The price for the beers were also too high. The service was okay.More

This was a very colorful and interesting restaurant. The food was exceptionally delicious. The ceviche was fresh and tasty. The calamari was crispy to perfection. Causa De Cangrejo was the best potato dish I've ever had. Highly recommended!

I used to go to Cana Rana with my family on a monthly basis. We enjoyed the food, but the restaurant needs to work on their service. Usually the place its pretty booked and you have to wait in line to get in (can be...un to 30 minutes). When me and my family were waiting in line to get into the restaurant, a woman (i think it's the owner) came to us and told us in a rude way that she was not going to serve us without any explanation. I told her politely that we came from a long distance and if there was any way in which she could help us, which she denied. Other people were waiting in line before us and they couldn't get served as well. I understand that restaurants can get full and other circumstances, but there has to be some empathy when attending customers. Other people were waiting in line before us and they got the same response. If the restaurant is usually full, they should work with reservations to avid this circumstances.More

I've lived in Barranco and neighboring Miraflores for more than a decade. I've owned and operated a boutique, tailor-made vacation company for much of this time, helping the foreign clients of my business visit the best local spots to enjoy honest Peruvian food and service....I've enjoyed Canta Rana for many years, happily tolerating average service, high prices, but wonderful fresh food, specifically Peruvian ceviche made from raw fish with Lime. To give a sense on price vs value. The traditional fish ceviche (with avocado) is 50 soles (approximately 15 dollars), which is twice the cost of most all cevicherias en Barranco. Fresh fish is important for Peruvian ceviche and Canta Rana provides this level of freshness. Only they provide it at twice the cost, and what has become increasingly egotistical service. Canta Rana is a restaurant with good intentions, an ownership with a long history in the community, and a long line for weekend ceviche to boot. But it is far past it's prime on providing an authentic Peruvian ceviche. From my perspective, it's become a restaurant living off it's laurels of past reputation, yet forgetting what honest Peruvian ceviche is and should be. At 50 soles for a traditional ceviche, one can enjoy ceviche one of the top rated restaurants in Peru and the world. Moreover, one can enjoy a ceviche at half of that cost at most street corners in the city, yet with service with less ego more human centered and empathetic. I truly want to be a cheerleader for Canta Rana, including it's other restaurant in Puna Hermosa, a beach town south of Lima where I also spend time. They have served an important place in Peru's ascendance in gastronomy and within Lima/Barranco tourism. But as someone with a stake in how Peru's restaurant scene is looked at by the world, I'm also very keen to ensure that our cities top cevicherias represent the best and most authentic version of Peru possible. Please Canta Rana...Improve your service, provide more fair prices and understand that your restaurant represents Barranco. I'm rooting for you! In candidness, your neighbor Nick.More
