Staying at the After Hotel, this was a short walk along la Rambla towards the Uruguayan Yacht Club. From the outside, it looks nothing special but it filled up fast after 8pm though we were there a little earlier. I wasn't expecting 3 salmon fillets which came with either a potato or a vegetable side dish. A lot of people... More

We came to this place by a recommendation from the hotel. We hate touristic restaurants, and the guy told us this was a place where locals eat. The restaurant is nothing fancy, but the food is really good. The seafood is the special here. The service was excellent, and the food was very good.

We order sole. What we received was pangasius (we believe). In any case nothing similar to sole. They accept only VISA cards or cash. If you like fish and seafood, go elsewhere. There are very good real restaurants in town.

This place seems to be a Sunday tradition for some ancient, unknown reason, because after every annual trip there, 3 in all, I'm always telling myself, never again. This time, for a fish dinner on Mother's Day, once again the service is disorganized, excruciatingly slow, and terrible. From order to delivery was 755 minutes, and the waiter almost gave it... The restaurant is very well located but the food is terrible. I've asked for a sole fish but they served something like a Chinese panga fish!

Ordered pulpo a la gallega and what I got is not even close, a chewy octopus (three tentacles) and 1 potato.... Horrible Ordered a Paella... What I got was a soupy rice that was 80% Seafood, no salt, and the dish dominated by mussels. Again horrible and hard to believe they can screw up a simple dish having the right... More

I give it 3 points because its one of the only restaurants where you can eat better fish in Montevideo and have more choices for fish to choose out. Dont go in the middle of the summer for a lunch because it's terrible hot there and they dont have airconditioner.

This is a mixed emotions review: yesterday went to El Italiano with my family from Brazil. They love sea food and as the day was sunny we decided to enjoy the fresh air. As my husband and me arrived at 10 to 1pm we approached the person that was supposed to "welcome" the customers. This very first impression was disappointing... More

If you want eat great fish meal, Uruguay is not the place to be, but this restaurant is a valid alternative to "the always present" meat. The place is rustic but the service was good and Fish was good, cooked in a basic way. Finally I recommended.

Ups: relatively inexpensive wines (e.g., Trapiche Sauvignon for 290 Uruguayan pesos) and the enormous portions. Downs: quality of food so so. Many of the fish in the menu were not available. Issue: They do not accept credit cards and this is illegal. There is a law under which such type of business must accept a credit card. It is ridiculous... More
