With Jun Chef Kelvin Cheung is poised for a Michelin star. There is no doubt about it in my mind. Rarely, very rarely does one come across such a talented and dynamic chef with so much mastery over his craft. The chefs of ‘A 100-foot...Journey’ and ‘Toscana’ are fantastic, but they specialize in a single cuisine. The haughty Helen Mirren is a close-minded conservative specializing in a conventional and predictable single cuisine – French - and judges chefs by their French omelets. The growling, ill-tempered chef in Toscana is as cold as his native land. Thank God he moved to Tuscany, which inspired him to rethink his approach to love, life, and food. He falls in love with his craft and learns the essence of Italian cooking – simplicity. Good for him. The bottom line, the food is still bland and too safe. Chef Kelvin’s food is spicy, exotic and opens up the senses. His food is earthy, boisterous, jovial, and it sang to me. Every dish has a feel-good and optimistic theme. Not a single item was predictable. They were all inspiring and new. The bread with fermented garlic, honey, and chili butter was so, so good. We ordered almost all the hot appetizers on the menu except for beef, and each one was more wonderful than the last. The Tempura Zattar chaat, the kpop cauliflower, the sabudana vada, the cumin lamb with scallion pancakes, the kpop wings, we ate them all. The star performer was the dan dan spaghettini cooked in mushroom broth that we could not get enough of. We were ready to throw in our napkins, but the chef insisted we try some of his specials which just didn’t stop coming. The crispy and succulent sea bream, the mapo tofu lasagna, sweet potato fries, burnt garlic kimchi fried rice, the Singapore rice noodles with madras curry, chili butter garlic prawns, and the outstanding garlic prawn khichdi- yes, we ate them all and loved each one. Kelvin insisted we sample the desserts also, which we greedily did. But those comments are for another day when we haven’t eaten so much before and can do justice to the desserts! Food is sacred at any Indian family’s house. The Indian dining table is the central place of activity, and food keeps the family together. Food speaks to us and gives us happiness. And we were happy at Jun’s; no, we were high on food at Jun’s. Chef Kelvin must have worked incredibly hard to present the menu at Jun’s. His array of culinary dishes is ambitious, but he delivered on each one. He is light years ahead of his contemporaries, who are good at what they can do, which is limited to one type of cuisine. With his multi-cultural background and some earnest traveling, Kelvin is ideally poised to present some of the world’s most exciting fusion food. It’s not a cultural hotchpotch like most fusion restaurants offer. It’s not gimmicky. With Chef Kelvin, there is no culinary cuisine clash, rather a melodious and gastronomic blend of Indian, Asian, and North American fare. He has conquered the art of taking traditional dishes and serving them in thrilling and unexpected ways without losing their heart and soul so that the food retains its taste and essence. And Dubai is the best place to show off his talents as this city takes its multiculturalism and its food very seriously. The service was seven stars, if that’s possible. The well-trained and knowledgeable team of servers led by Shane was supremely well-orchestrated. This is not easy to find in Dubai.More

We had a family lunch at Jun’s and it was a real joy from the very start with a lovely welcome and fabulous waiting staff who explain the dishes beautifully and serve them in an expertly manner!! Every dish was special and had unusual flavors...that kept surprising the palate. One of our favorites were the carrots on smoked labneh with caramelized nuts; simply mind-blowing; so delicious!!! Highly recommend!!!!More

Visiting for a family dinner we wanted to check the hype about the awarded restaurant called JUN’S. Honestly, besides having very kind waiters I just do not understand why I chose this place? There are so many negative reviews which I didn’t do my homework...beforehand “so my bad”, and at the end of the day, and as they say “The proof is in the pudding”. Quite honestly the pudding was a waste of time, money and effort. The food, as per the menu screams imaginative, which I generally endorse but what a Shakespearian tragedy. From the appetisers to desserts, it is quite bad and everything was so bad. Unfortunately I regretted to spend the evening there, along with our hard earned money. Our plates remained half full and nobody questioned why? Big waste of time “timed out”. I have lost trust in recommendations from “Timeout” and I am incredibly disappointed at Michelin Guide to put such an awful place in their list, fake news as Donald says. For this reason, I will not follow their reviews anymore, and unfortunately, If this place is listed in Michelin Guide with all of its reputation, I can now say that Guide Michelin UAE has already fallen, and they are very far from following their European trend. Big disappointment, worst feeling and nothing else to say as I have already wasted my time talking about this awful experience!More

We had a superb meal at Jun’s. The inside is atmospheric and stylish and there is an unlicensed outdoor area on the Boulevard. We had a range of dishes - warm bread with honey dip, wagyu beef pot stickers, lamb and wagyu meat, tempura veg...and noodles, garlic broccoli and cauliflower and sea bass. The food was sensational and the service spot on. With two glasses of wine, our bill was just under 850 dirhams.More

For the quality of the good I would recommend Jim’s I choose this restaurant because of dining with view on the Burj Khalifa, which was not, the manager offered us a drink bacause of this but at the end hè didn’t offer me anything, since...apparently I had a credit of 7500 sed for drinks we didn t use up. What a scam afterall. When I asked the bill they told me I had a big credit left, so far my free drinks, well done manager, I should had ordered 2 bottles of Dom Perignon and just poor them. My friend and I met for dinner one evening and had a quite enjoyable experience. We were able to be seated outside with Burj views - this definitely added to the experience. The starters and mains were full of flavor and of decent portion size....I stuck with the jalapeno waygu burger - it's so good! The menu has a variety of options from meat to fish so you can't go wrong. Definitely make a reservation and enjoy your dining experience!More

We came during the “special event” night with “Chef’s night out” on October 16 to celebrate my husband’s birthday. I whatsapped with the restaurant BEFORE paying 838 AED for 2 people for the tasting menu, and asked them if it makes sense to come being...pregnant and allergic to shellfish. They confirmed to me multiple times it was manageable and I booked it. On arrival I reminded them, I was pregnant with allergies and they reassured me again they were aware. 1. On arrival, we waited long for the food. My husband received 2 courses (I could not have any for my allergies) and I watched him eat alone. I think most of the meal we spent watching each other eat alone. 2. After mentioning to the serving staff that I had yet to eat anything not even bread, they brought me a dish with foie gras - something pregnant women cannot have - the server came back and insisted from the kitchen I could eat it. After insisting I would not eat it, they finally brought me the same dish - minus the foie gras - cold grits. 3. I asked for the manager and raised my concern that I was being given food without considering my dietary restrictions, who promised to come back to me with a clear menu of the next 4-5 courses. He never came back. 4. Received a dish from one server who did not explain to me what was inside the dumpling but said it was made especially for me. When I asked another server what was inside after taking one bite - he told me - it was shellfish!!!! He had to go back to the kitchen to clarify again! Turned out it wasn’t but he sent me into panic mode - thinking we had to leave to go to emergency. 5. I finally received 3 dishes at once simultaneously so had to eat all in a hurry. By then, I was exhausted from trying to get decent service as we were still not clear what I was eating as the service staff was not clear about anything they were serving me. 6. We waited 20 minutes for dessert and then again for the bill and by then just wanted to leave after a terrible 2 hours. We never received a single apology from management, even if the serving staff could clearly see I was crying during the meal because of the dismal service and experience ruining my husbands birthday celebration. One just kept trying to upsell us cocktails. Did I mention the manager never came back? We payed almost 1000 dirhams all together for this meal and it was one of the worst executed experiences of my life. The lack of service or consideration was unprofessional. We had been to Juns 4x during my pregnancy (bringing different friends) and had a positive experience but I felt I wasted 1000 dirhams and my husbands birthday celebration on such a bad experience. Not sure we will be back anymore after such customer service. Nor will we recommend any of our friends ever again.More

My partner and I went for dinner at Jun's on the last night of our trip to Dubai and we found it to be a great, lively spot. The room was buzzing, the service was great and the food was amazing. It was a Saturday...night and they had a DJ playing hip hop - for some, it could have been considered as a bit loud, but for us it helped great a great, lively vibe. We had a few of the small dishses to share and then a main each - all of them were fantastic. A special mention for some of their bespoke cocktails, we really enjoyed them. Overall, the price was reasonable and we would definietly eat at Jun's again the next time we're in Dubai.More
