This restaurant is very famous in Chengdu and can be dated back to Qing Dynasty, the last dynasty of China, which is over 100 years ago, it is also a Chinese time-honored brand.Their famous dish, Ma Po Tofu was named after the Chief Chen's wife, who invented this dish. For people who want to try local food, it is a really... More

The Good: Some of the more spicy dishes are worth going for. The Bad: Over use of oil and really bad service.

My family and I decided to give this a try and boy were we sorely disappointed and frustrated. The mapo doufu was soaked in a deep layer of oil, the vegetables were overly salted, and to top it off, the service staffs were rude and barely able to understand our order. We barely touched our food and left as soon... More

I loved in Chengdu many years ago and was keen to come back for all the local favourites. My family are well trained on chilli. This restaurant was very local and authentic. The no smoking signs are just a suggestion. The food is great although the actual mapo doufu was very salty as has been noted by previous reviewers. The... More

My first time in chengdu & this restaurant was near our hotel & well recommended. Food served here is the well known Sichuan cuisine. We had mapo tofu (came in s sizzling hot pot), pork skin appetizer (yum!), dumpling (Both the spicy & non-spicy versions), boiled beef in spicy broth (double yum!), pork blood in spicy broth (super yum!), &... The dan dan noodle portion is too big for the two of us to finish. The non spicy beancurd taste nice. La zi ji (chili chicken) taste nice

This is part of chain as far I understand serving Sichuan food. The food is quite nice though it might be quite different from what passes off as Sichuan food in the West. Be careful to eat the spicy food with a buffer like rice as your tummy may militate afterwards against the powerful mix of Sichuan peppercorns and chillies!... More

Went to Chen Mapo Dou Fu-Mǎ Shì Diàn Branch (陈麻婆豆腐骡马市店), qīngyáng qū xi yùlóng jiē 197 hào (青羊区西玉龙街197号) and really enjoyed the authentic Sichuan food. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and it was very clean, service could be better but was acceptable. The prices are good. We ordered 5 dishes and spend 115RMB, including drinks. We ordered their... More
