Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dining at Heianraku was a real highlight of our holiday in Japan. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and the food was absolutely delicious. We are truly grateful for the care and consideration taken to make almost every dish on...the menu gluten free. Thank you to the hosts Hiroshi and Naoko for a truly memorable experience!More

Can’t fault this restaurant. The food is amazing and the vibe is awesome. The husband and wife who run the place make a great team. It’s clear that they take pride in serving quality local food and taking care of their customers. Don’t miss out...on the sweet and sour pork meatballs!!!!More

A family run restaurant that offers a cosy, intimate dining experience. Reservation only - 6 seats at the bar and 2x 2 seater tamati mats. Very knowledgeable about the food they are preparing. Catering for meat, veggie and gluten free diners. (The couple were a...dietician and chemist prior to this!) We dined as 1x gluten free and one regular. To start you are welcomed with a selection of local dishes and soup (all can be made GF), We enjoyed the pork gyozas (1x GF) For mains the pork meatballs and chicken karaage (gluten free) both served with rice. We finished off with a jasmine tea and some dried fruits. A great meal for excellent value, would highly recommend!!More

Such a wonderful find. This is a lovely welcoming restaurant run by a husband and wife team. We were made to feel so welcome despite our extremely limited Japanese. Incredible service. We were fortunate to get a reservation for a counter seat. There’s a great...choice of vegetarian (and non vege) meals, all very reasonably priced. A great meal with some seriously good cooking from chef, the baby potato we were served as one of the many courses was amazing. A humble ingredient elevated to something fantastic. Make sure to book a table if you’re in Takayama.More

I cannot say enough about this amazing dining experience! Delicious food from the starters to the dessert. Pre-fixed menu allows you to taste all this family run business has to offer. Book ahead as space is limited & sells out fast. You won’t be sorry...!!More

Exciting, delicious, comforting food. Fun and cozy atmosphere. Charming and enthusiastic husband and wife hosts - effortlessly juggling cooking, serving guests, making conversation, and answering the door. Plenty of tasty options on the menu for those that eat meat, vegetarians, and vegans alike. Happily devoured...the 2 person vegetarian set menu - started with a surprise bonus appetizer of local small bites, then moved onto the meal of crispy dumplings, melon soup, fried rice, and tofu entrees prepared in 2 different and equally delicious ways (mapo and teppen). Ended with some tea and 2 different desserts - one almond milk and one sesame pudding (again - both delightful in different ways). All served with an educational explanation of local ingredients. As a fun ending, the hostess asked us to sign a book of maps marking where you are from - she claps her hands in delight if you happen to be from a place not already marked. It is a true wonder to look at names of folks from all over the world who have come to this restaurant, and it made me feel happy and connected to all the others who have had the pleasure of the shared experience of eating at this special place.More

We ordered the value set for 3 persons which consist of the sweet and sour meatballs, mixed vegetables and tofu on hot plate. The dishes were simple but they remind me of home and were very tasty. The owners, a friendly couple, made the whole...dining experience warm and cozy. The lady owner speaks good English which makes communication a breeze for us who do not speak Japanese.More

Some of the friendliest people you'll ever encounter. They actually directed us to a festival in the neighboring town that turned out to be one of our best travel experiences ever! The set lunches and dinners are great and all hand-made from scratch right in...front of you. Extremely vegetarian-friendly as well.More

The absolute most lovely evening! We have been traveling in Asia for 2 months and this dinner was one of our best in all resoects- local, delicious food, kind owners, charming locale, and child friendly. The owners chatted with us about Takayama, made origami with...the kids, and fed us delicious food. The kids were satisfied and wanted to return (and we likely would have, had we not been moving on). I was worried that it would be too touristy, given its tripadvisor popularity, but that couldn't have been further from the truth. Go here, you won't be disappointed!More
