Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A gem of a restaurant, two minutes from Gora Station. So delicious we ate here twice, and braved possibly not finding a taxi to our hotel because we were so taken by the food and service. You sign up for a ticket (love that this...is fair and organized) and wait your turn to be called (in Japanese, but just show your number and they will make sure you're seated). No reservations, and service from 5pm to 7pm (they close ""the book"" at 7pm, so if you have a number they will seat you). The food … we had the same thing both nights. Tender strips of pork filet cutlet (Hire Katsu Juu) on rice and tofu stuffed with ground pork (Tofu Katsuni Teisyoku) with all kinds of sides. The taste/umami was amazing and so flavorful. So many other things on the menu, but we were only staying two nights. This is one of those special places in the middle of nowhere that you can't believe you've stumbled upon. One woman spoke perfect English and remembered us when we came back! She was so incredibly helpful. I wish we got her name - a big arigato!"More

You need to come early to queue for a table. The restaurant sells tofu breaded pork katsu, which during the rest of the rest of my stay in Japan I did not come across. It was very good and worth the wait.

Amazing tonkatsu! Very friendly staff. Good tofu katsu. The edamame was good. Prices are reasonable in the context of Hakone, where everything is more expensive.

Found this little gem Only open from 5.30 to 7.30 out your name on (Japanese) list by 7pm. Had the tofu which I usually find tasteless but the next tables looked good and it’s the best I’ve ever had. Wine decent Sake good too. Meal...served with miso soup starter and rice to accompany the meal. All diners gone by 8.30.More

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place. The food was incredible, very different to anything else I ate during my time in Japan. Insane flavour and felt so fresh and light. Great if you want to try the traditional food in Hakone....The service was quick and staff were kind to us and patient considering we didn’t speak any Japanese. Amazing portions and very reasonably priced. The decor is very pleasant and even was beautiful on the outside. So overall with the food, the location and great service, it was an unforgettable meal for me.More

I arrived a bit before opening (5:30pm) and I’m glad I did - the lineup as I came out at the end was quite long! It appears that lots of locals go to this place, and for good reason. Their specialty dish is Tofu Katsuni,...and it was fabulous. It came exactly as advertised on their English menu, sizzling from heat. It was extremely flavourful and somewhat sweet, and definitely hit the spot after a long day of travelling around the Hakone area. And, as I’m a vegetarian, it was especially nice being able to try a restaurant’s signature dish for once. A quick heads-up to would-be travellers: while there is an English copy of the menu, to actually get into the restaurant there is a ticketing system, and they only call out the numbers in Japanese!More

Our visit there was not planned, so the surprise of having found such a nice place was doubled. We decided to try some local cousine, so tofu katsuni (made from local tofu) seemed like a perfect choice. It was excellent, I'd really recommend it to...anyone hanging around near Gora area.More

This was one of the few restaurants open after 7 in Gora, so we were happy to find it and be welcomed so nicely. The food was decent and the service attentive. If you are a vegetarian, this is a good option as there specialty...is tofu.More

We were a bit disappointed with the food. They serve the decent tofu cuisine, but not exceptionally good to justify the long queue. Instead we thought the “tofu” ice cream that was selling just next door is definitely a hidden gem!

Yes indeed, I had to wait 2 hours before I could get in! It was at lunch time and I had read in other reviews that a 30 min walk in the town was just about the time needed, well to give you an indication...(if you do want to wait), the moment I arrived number 46 was up and I had number 93. Another plan might be to just go in the evening, I heard in the hotel that in the evening there are far less people. I wish someone had told me that :). And then the food! Well yes the specialty tofu hot pot was good but definitely not worth waiting for this long. The interior nothing special, the service okay.More

Had to wait an hour to get a table but was definitely worth the wait! Tofu was delicious and around £6 was definitely somewhere I would recommend. Also nice place.

Expect a wait (up to an hour), but so worth it. The tofu is delicious and sauce light with a touch of sweetness. Cost was very reasonable.

We visited Goza for the day and was looking for lunch. This place rated very high on TripAdvisor so we thought we should give it a try. When we got there, the line was a mile long. I thought that was a very good indicator...that I was a good place for lunch. The line was composed wholly of local Japanese which made it even better. It ended up being a 45min wait. Monday 11:30am. Be aware, when lining up, they call the number only in Japanese. I do karate and know my Japanese number up to 10 - I couldn't understand them calling the number over 10. I got sick of guessing and tucked the number on my hat and stood just outside the door. When It was my number, the waiter just tapped me on the shoulders to indicate I was our turn. They have an English menu so ask for the English menu if you can't read Japanese. Also note, there are two types of seating- chair and table (western style) and traditional Japanese. My legs were aching because I'm not use to crossing my legs in lotus position for lunch. I'm not normally a tofu kind of guy, but their signature tofu meal was the best tofu I have ever tasted. Their pork cutlet was amazing as well. Crunchy on the outside and really really juicy on the inside. Definitely worth the wait and I would high recommend it anyone passing the area. Lunch for 2 was about $5500 yen.More

I went there with my family and it was quite cosy and spacious. Had two babies as well and it was good we had a room in a corner. I had a very tonkatsu meal in this shop & some fried tofu. Portions were fairly...large. If you ever end up in Gora, it's not too far from the station Gora's Sundance Resort and it's good value!More
