Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Do not go to this cake shop, there is a lady serve you with face that we owe her a million dollars, not friendly, we came there to have a quiet and nice cake but when we saw your face, seems like we eat there...for FREE ? Please don't give that attitude if you want to run business, so what, we owe you a million ? I dont recommend this place, even if nice but with that ugly face, you will run your appetite. Please dont support this shop.More

China House is an experience! … a variety of offers in this long thin incredible building. We went for the front section , basically a cafe with an amazing selection of cake which is all made in house. The choice is mind blowing. We had...Lemon curd cake and it was one of the best cakes I’ve eaten Light but jam packed with flavourMore

This is an attractive stylish restaurant with a lot to offer, except organised customer focused service! The food is ok but all arriving at different times and delivered by different waiting staff none of whom were visible when needed. We gave up on dessert or...ordering extra dishes after waiting for half an hour for our plates to be cleared.More

3 of us went in the cafe but was told to wait outside their cafe. Then came 2 Hong Kong tourist and they waited behind us. After that 4 Malaysian family came and they were escorted to their seats. We just kept quiet but then...a couple came and they got their seats too. Me and the Hongkies were saying what are we waiting for when people came after us got their seats. When confronted the staff, we were told that seats are allocated according to capacity. Then how come the couple got their seat rather than the 2 Hong Kong tourists? My husband raised his voice and the waiter asked us to leave!! This is the worst service I have encountered! I will give a negative rating if there is option. Buat malu Malaysia in front of foreigners.More

A restored heritage house full of character, good cakes and nice people (customers and staff). We had the tiramisú and pavlova and they didn’t disappoint.

We came into this cafe and were pleased to note that it was offering “loose leaf premium tea selection”. We ordered the English Breakfast tea, expecting a good strong brew since it was loose leaf tea. However, what was served was a tea bag in...a large metal tea pot and not unexpected, the brew was weak and definitely not worth RM17. What a rip off!More

Big piece of cake, definitely value for money. Some of the items recommend by local is: tiramisu cake, cheese cake with poppy seed, carrot cake that in the fridge. The apple pie is too sweet for me. They have special tea, called orange pala, not...bad to try!More

Oh dear this was a mistake. A magical place we discovered late on our first night in Penang on the advice of a friend who had stayed at the owner's hotel on Langkawi. Presume it was an old shop with storerooms and perhaps living rooms?...Lovingly preserved and restored. It became our go- to place every day - to have tea and the most delicious cakes imaginable. Lovely staff. Fantastic glass art exhibition upstairs by Wong - we went to visit his Art and Garden and this was one of the best experiences in Penang. Loved the sister shop selling books, jewels, furniture etc. A cool place to hang out.More

Quirky and pretty a place. Tiramisu was very good. Drinks were fine. Food was okay. It is quite an expensive cafe, though.

After a long hot day it was a joy to come inside and enjoy the atmosphere and welcoming service. (Not to mention the air conditioning!) My 10 year old also really enjoyed the opportunity to doodle!

FINGER CROSSED 🤞🏾 We’re here again for the vibe of white paper on table with crayons, unfortunately you guys approached us by saying its was ‘fine dining” and not allowed to draw because ITS HYGIENE! STOPPED US!! And, the manager being so unprofessional serving us...without an proper greeting before serve the food. This is an insane. 1st of all, We’re not here for the free food. After few minutes later, while we was enjoying the meals and there’s a group of 4pax opposite us come up with their wooden blocks tower stacking game! Making an noise and this is what u called fine dining??? The lady who called supervisor explains to us that games is okey but not drawing. Sounds so ridiculous! It’s never ends there yet, this group come up again with white paper and crayon on their table and started with their drawings. This really pist us off, we leave the table with disappointed to the counter do to an payment. Service is worse! We was the only Indian couple who dining there, aren’t you guys being double standards towards us?? Its was our sudden plan to be here and we spend almost RM200++, No words to describe how bad its was! You guys have to go for hospitality management courses before enter into this FNB service. I’m into this industry for almost 15years and I know well about this services too. The waiter was amazing, she did great job. She entertained us with so much patience by explaining every detail about the menu. Thanks to the waiter 💛More

Fun location in a heritage house with great music, pastries and beer but the food was forgettable. I would go to visit a really cool place. The cakes and other pastries looked wonderful. However our bento box and laksa were dreadful. The over RM40.00 bento...was likely slapped together in a hurry. My wife managed 3 bites. My laksa was at least doable. I still think this place is worth visiting but give the food a pass and stick to the pastries and beer.More

I came with my husband and friends that actually have kids. We were asked to sit at the other side of the cafe because they told us they were having renovations at the back and no tables can occupy us. I asked if they can...give us some paper and crayons so I can draw and spend time with the kids. Too disappointed when they said they can’t provide because they don’t have the papers and crayons. It was the main thing that attracted me to invite them to the cafe because of the vibe and some art activities that we could do together and have some fun while having dessert. My friend and my husband came to the cashier to pay for the bill but no thank you at all. The staffs are not kids friendly and honestly this is going to be my last time to go there.More
