I visited this restaurant in December 16 with my boyfriend, we weren't sure what we was going to get initially from reading the reviews but I can tell you I'm not sure how you can be negative about such a lovely restaurant. The restaurant itself has a lovely ambience, its cosy and the lighting is quite dim. The waiters are... More

Came here for dinner with 4 adults and 2 kids and they were "smart" enough to tuck us away in the corner. Appetizer, I ordered the Kale Salad. I liked the salad. The toasted almonds was a nice touch. However, the dish was too salty for me and drenched in olive oil. For main course, I ordered the bone in... More

I love this place. I'm somewhat surprised they do so well considering the outside of the building is so nondescript but the interior makes up for it. They've used vintage decor down to the tiniest detail to create a timeless ambiance. When you are sitting in there you feel like you are transported to another time. Their raw bar is... More

After almost a year's absence, we returned to Mar's over the Memorial Day Weekend. We again ordered the Grand Plateau, consisting of 8 different varieties of oysters, two types of clams, mussels, jumbo wild caught shrimp, and lobster. Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of lobsters, but an increased number of shrimp and mussels were substituted without complaint from us. Fresh... More

Very delicious and well prepared food - lovely wait staff as well. Management could be better - we visited this spot with my family and almost everything went wonderfully. The bad: a waitress spilled a glass of wine on my head and *white* shirt - while she apologized profusely, when we got the bill there was no adjustment. The manager... More

I didnt expect much heading to Astoria for dinner. But Mar's is well worth the trip. We started with yummy scotch- and bourbon-inspired cocktails. Segued to fabulous deep-fried oysters and salt cod crocquetts (my one complaint was that the salt coss were too salty overall . The lobster roll and the pan fried gnocci with a half lobsfer were utterly... More

I really like Mar's cocktail menu, and it's often very well executed. The oyster lineup often changes and the raw bar offers lots of interesting choices, but they don't come cheap -- I believe most of the oysters average around $2.50-$3 each. Catching the oyster happy hour is a much more reasonable way to get your bivalve on. The kitchen... More

This is a very pleasantly decorated and busy restaurant although size wise it is quite small. The dimmed lighting may add to an atmosphere, but honestly you really need a flashlight to read the menu and that is at a window seat with the help of street lighting. The service was fine and the food, we had oysters, were not... More

This place is wonderful. The atmosphere is great - dimmed lighting and very cozy. The bartender really knows how to make a drink; they're spot on every time. The oysters and apps (calamari and grilled octopus) are delicious and cooked to perfection. The only downside is that it's pretty pricey here - especially the oysters. But whenever we want to... A very positive surprise. The recommended green asparagus soup was delicate, fried oysters and the sliced salmon sliced were al excellent. Steak tartar is recommendable and gnocchi with lobster delicate. The ambiance and service good. Very recommendable and we will come back.
