Ordered the set menu and recommend it. Beef was prepared three different ways, each better than the next. Service was pleasant and at least one staff member spoke fluent English. Highly recommended!

Popular place which we made a reservation for a couple of nights out. Got the 13000 yen meal set for dinner, which honestly was too much food. The dishes were all great...the soup, the sukiyaki, the steak tartare, and the main course of steak (and the bread!), the dessert...all great. Quite a bit more food than we expected, and I... More

It was the best steak I have ever had. Disappointed I only went once! Even my wife who is quite fussy when it come to meat agreed it was the best steak she had ever had. Definitely ring and book in advance It cost about $300 AU for 2 but definitely worth it.

Truly the best steak ever- crazy good. I am not even a steak person and could have ordered a second one! Portions sre small, especially for the price, but the most tender steak I have ever tasted. Highly recommend.

Food, service, wine, atmosphere did not disappoint. We enjoyed our meal so much that we returned a second time before leaving Kyoto. Pricey, yes but worth every penny given the quality.

We felt this was the second best steak we ate during 2 weeks in Japan. The best was olive mush fed beef at Ryugin in Tokyo. The appetiser soup salad and desert that came with the meal made them a destination in their own right. Excellent service fairly priced wine and good English. We enjoyed it so much we went... More

If you want to visit a restaurant that really shows you how Kyoto tradition can be merged with Contemporary style cooking, do not miss this spot.

We had the £100 set menu and really enjoyed it. The carpaccio of beef and brisket to start were both full of flavour. The mushroom soup was delicious and the mains of steak were to die for - melt in the mouth. You are sat at the counter and can see them cooking which is a nice touch. My only... More

We went to Hafuu based on the reviews here. We had the $100 set course and an additional sirloin steak. Appetizers were underwhelming (carpaccio, brisket) and I would avoid altogether. My steak was good but my gf steak had sinew running through it and was quite chewy. For the price point you can do better, Otsuka is a Wagyu steak... More

You know a place is good when you show up without a reservation, and they're full for the next two nights. Luckily, we had been told to expect this and were able to book a few nights later. OH MY GOD. Basically all future meat has been ruined for me. This place was so good... The beef was melt-in-your-mouth perfection.... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
