Not sure if I would call this an Izakaya but they have small plates. Choices include lots of vegetables and tofu dishes. I had the yuba and tofu stew, which was great. I also likes the butter sautéed sweet potato with black sesame seeds. Washed it down with a nice cold sake. Service was pretty good. Prices are moderate. ¥500... More

We came across this little restaurant while looking for somewhere to have dinner. The service is very friendly and the food we ordered was delicious. The ambience was great and very relaxing. We ordered a variety of dishes were all delicious and the price was reasonable.

Absolutely simple airline-type food. Had a seafood salad - fish obviously not fresh - and a Spinach/Shrimp Gratin literally without Spinach or Shrimps. It's comparably cheap so it's fine for a quick bite on your own. Stay away if you re planning for a date / family dinner.

We found this small underground restaurant via Tripadvisor and had some good food experience. The menu has some surprising raw food on it and the different items we've tasted we're all very fresh and tasteful. The girl who've helped us was one the friendliest we've met in Japan!

I was excited to try this little restaurant, but it didn't live up to expectations or reviews. Maybe we just visited on an off-night, but neither of us found the food particularly good. With some amazing dining in Kyoto this was a bit of a disappointment.

The delicious food elsewhere makes it hard for this restaurant to stand out. Still it manages to serve good food for a very reasonable price. When you're tired at your hotel/airbnb after a long day of temples, shrines and gardens and need some decent food without dressing up or walking around, this is a perfect alternative. Plus the staff is... More

Locates in Cocoon near the metro station this was a great find. I had the set menu, which was excellently priced. My partner had 3 dishes from the menu. He had fresh salad with avocado and salmon as well as a mackerel dish. Each dish was around ¥600 yen. My set menu included tempura, sashimi, tofu, chicken and fermented trout... More

This great restaurant is located in the basement of Cocon Karasuma, and it was a great find for this vegetarian. I had Goku rice balls, flavored with butter and soy sauce, which were yummy. And I had an excellent tofu steak with yuba (skin from boiled soymilk that I saw in a lot of restaurants in Kyoto). And of course... More

After a few days of fried foods, sushi and rice heavy meals... I was craving something lighter but still very Japanese. This izakaya focuses on offering healthy choices like sea bream poached in a tagine, yellow tail carpaccio, yuba (soy milk skin which is a Kyoto specialty), vegetables served with miso dipping sauces flavored with yuzu, plum, etc. we especially... Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
