I read several articles about this place and thought of having a visit but never managed to stop by at this neighbourhood during my stay in Kyoto. Thanks to my dear friend who gave me a ride weeks ago and we enjoyed a pleasant and delicious meal here.... The small building was uniquely designed to combine a mini library, art... More

Getting here requires quite alot of effort - changing some trains from central Kyoto + taking an electric rail train. Nonetheless it's all worth it! Prinz is located in a lovely, quaint, peaceful neighbourhood, and you can enjoy a nice relaxing walk around the town. The cafe itself immediately puts you at ease, with lots of natural light, comfy seats,... More

We really enjoyed our experience visiting the Prinz cafe in Kyoto. Take the 204 bus and it stops just outside. The food was really good and freshly prepared and the coffee was one of the best we had in Kyoto. The cafe itself is very cool - it is within an art gallery space, so we really enjoyed the artwork... After reading some cool reviews on this cafe we decided to search it out. It is in a residential area but it wasn't hard for us to find. Really cool atmosphere!! Fresh natural light, art gallery, library, music listening station, garden. We were so inspired. The coffee was really good and bold and it came in a cool bulbous glass... More

We booked two nights at the Prinz after our hipster Wallpaper guidebook told us it was Kyoto's only boutique hotel option. We had already spent two nights at a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan) so we were looking for something totally different and modern. Unfortunately, the "large room" was already booked, so we took the "medium room" which was so dirty... More

Prinz is an Apart-Hotel and it has 2 rooms, a cafe, bar and book/CD shop. Near the arts school in Kyoto, Japan.. Its way off the beaten track for tourists but well worth the effort! Bus number 204 stops opposite it - and buses are the norm in Kyoto as it doenst have an extensive metro network, so if you... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
