Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent kaiseki dining experience - Keiko and her parents deliver a spectacular meal. She explains each course and made great sake pairing suggestions. The restaurant is very lovely. It’s a little hard to find - tucked in a quiet street behind the Kyoto train station....It helped that I saw a picture of the front entrance on Google reviews. The night we dined here, we were the only tourists. There was a large party of men dining in a private room. And it was clear they were regulars. A few of them chatting with Keiko’s husband who arrived after work to have dinner at the bar while his wife worked. At the end of the meal, she walked us outside and asked if we were a family mentioning that she works with her family. Just a really lovely meal with a lovely, highly skilled chef and her family.More

We went to this restaurant last night. They serve a traditional kaiseki menu. This gave us the chance to taste 10 courses with extremely subtile tastes and the best quality we have had in Japan so far. Keiko was a great help in advising us...how to enjoy the courses and which Sake to have with the food. This is a highly recommended restaurant for fine dining!More

I can not speak highly enough of this restaurant. We had our anniversary dinner at this restaurant about a year ago and forgot review, but I can not stress enough how absolutely amazing this experience was. It is like eating dinner in a private room,...being seated at the kitchen bench and watching the chef create some really beautiful things. The produce was so fresh and the meals were authentic. It was special and worth the every cent we paid and more. I really hope i can get back here one day because it's one of the best meals I've ever had. As we were leaving, Kay-Chan (the chef) and her parents ( who help her prepare the meals) came to the door to see us off and have a really sweet friendly chat. They were so lovely and welcoming and i really hope this restaurant lasts a long time. I would not recommend for families with children as it is a lovely quiet and serene setting, children would detract from the ambience - sorry!More

We visited this restaurant after reading the reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed! We opted for the 8 course menu that meant we had to go with whatever foods came our way and we loved every one of them. The food is prepared...and plated in front of you and is very much a fine dining version of fabulous Japanese food. The family that run this restaurant are really lovely and we're so very kind to us. One of our party had an injury and was using crutches and nothing was a problem and we were very grateful. We recommend this restaurant highly!More

Went to Kashin based off reviews from TripAdvisor. Kashin was a small, but oh so delicious, restaurant ran by Keiko and her family. The food was truly amazing and it was literally the highlight of the trip. Visited by both locals and foreigners alike. Has...vegetarian options too.More

We were staying at a nearby hotel and had a plan to go to a soba noodle place in the train station, but just couldn't bear all the noise and the crush of the crowds that would involve. So, we went to TA and found...this little place just a block and half away and based on all the great reviews thought we would give it a shot. We had a fabulous time - just the kind of relaxing, quiet evening we needed. We weren't hungry enough, and frankly didn't have the energy since we were still jetlagged, for a full-blown kaiseki dinner. We just had tempura, agadashi tofu, and what they referred to as Japanese risotto. All were absolutely outstanding, especially the tofu! And it was also very reasonably priced. I highly, highly recommend this quiet little place.More

We visited this restaurant after accidentally taking a wrong turn after trying to get to our cycle tour and wow we were extremely impressed. The restaurant itself is located in a quiet lane way in a beautiful traditional house. We sat at the bar and...it almost felt like I was in a Japanese home kitchen. We decided on the set menu - 8 course which was 6500 each (I think!). Each dish was beautifully presented and explained to us with tips on the best way to enjoy. The Sake was delicious. I can’t recommend this family run restaurant enough. If your wanting to try something traditional and taste different things that are of exceptional quality then this is the place for you. My favourite dish was the fish sashimi (pictured) and also the tofu dish which was the best tofu I have ever had in my life!More

Quiet, beautiful family run restaurant. We had the 8 course tasting menu, all dishes were amazingly presented and absolutely delicious. Each dish was thoroughly explained to us. The homemade tofu is by far the best tofu I’ve ever had. Id strongly recommend a counter seat...to watch the father/daughter chef combination in action!More

We went to Kashin based on the tripadvisor recommendation and had the 9 course tasting menu. We did not have a reservation but were lucky to get in and get seats at the counter. Every course was fully explained and presented in English. Every plate...was delicious and the family run restaurant had a great atmosphere. It was pricey, but the experience was one to remember.More

My wife and I discovered this hidden gem by wandering around Kyoto station looking for a place to eat and got attracted by this small and nice looking restaurant in a small alley. We had to book for three days later as the restaurant is...small and always full. The experience of kaiseki ryori has been wonderful. We sat in front of Keiko and her father who was meticulously composing the dishes in front of us. The 9-course menu, which is decided by the chef, felt like a pleasant and succulent culinary marathon, and Keiko gave us the sort of insight that we didn't know, such as how to eat in a Japanese way. The sashimi, hassu, home-made tofu, kobo, tempura were unforgettable for the quality of the ingredients and composition. We also had the surprise of eating fugu accompanied by a special sauce. This was light and soft, hence tasty. What made it special though was the smiles of this Kyoto family who made us feel like their guests. Keiko was translating to her husband and dad, so we managed to have some conversation even though I regret never to have studied Japanese at school! This dinner will be remembered for years. Okini from the heart to the whole family!More
