Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having tried sushi, shabu shabu, katsu and many other Japanese delights we thought it would be a nice change to go French and having just toured the Sento palace and gardens we found this gem just 10mins away. For less than £10 (1780 yen) you...get a three course meal and tea or coffee. Staff spoke decent English and could explain menu, a real treat.More

Tasty French food with Japanese accents in a cosy rustic atmosphere. Extensive menu with daily specials, and a wide range of wine and cocktails. Friendly staff do their best in English and French, though the clientele was largely Japanese during my visit. Prices are on...the high side, and there is a small cover charge at dinner. Cash only.More

This sweet restaurant is a gem. We have been traveling through Japan for the past several weeks and enjoyed many wonderful meals. However this special place tops them all. We were looking for a break in our Japanese food extravaganza, and decided on trying a...French food place. The ambiance is charming and inviting. The husband and wife duo are so incredibly endearing. Service is impeccable and the food superb. My husband had the Camembert Salad and the Lamb Chops. Loved them both, cooked to perfection. I had the salmon crudo salad with the Sea Bass special. To top it all off, we shared a chocolate flourless cake. The meal was perfect in every way, and the price very affordable. Do not hesitate to book a reservation.More

Excellent regional French-inspired cuisine, very authentic without losing a Japanese touch - the couple who run it couldn't be more kind and enthusiastic

Lovely typical French restaurant in Kyoto. We had a great meal between us of tuna sashimi, potato soup followed by roast duck, sole meunière, grilled sole and a cheese omelette and chips. That was beautifully served. If you want a change from Japanese food this...is the place to go.More

This restaurant has always been on our list whenever we visit Kyoto over the years. A cozy, family run French Bistro situated in the centre of Kyoto, it offers a heart-warming, lovely experience that is outstanding even by Kyoto standards. The restaurant’s name is a...reference to a small town in eastern France, and the menu they offer reflects the comforting, relaxed nature of “country cooking”. From garlic toast, prawns and shirako in olive oil, to bouillabaisse, the chef brilliantly combines french cooking with freshest ingredients locally sourced. Run by a lovely couple with many years of experience in French Cuisine, the small bistro offers an insightful culinary experience that exemplifies the culinary connection between France and Japan.More

A small cozy family run, French themed, restaurant just minutes walk from my hotel. Tasty, well presented dishes and cooked to perfection. Priced reasonably for the quality of the food. Wine list not bad and well priced. A great advertisement for a Japanese restaurant.

The restaurants in The Brighton Hotel are very expensive so we took a little walk and found this small gem. There is an English menu but our (the only 1 for the restaurant) took her time to go through the specials menu and explain in...English. Quite a choice!! We had snails, duck and the pork. Food could’ve been spiced better but it was tasty and tender.More

Like with some of the other reviews we were staying at Kyoto Brighton hotel and were searching out somewhere nearby to walk to. It is also very handy for anyone visiting the Imperial palace and gardens. This place really does feel like walking into a...quaint little French bistro. Hearty food (a wonderful confit duck dish), and a really friendly welcome - if only we were in Kyoto for longer we would certainly have returned.More

On multi week trip to Japan. Were looking for somewhere in kyoto for french food. We had 2 different beef dishes, one steak (japanese beef) with fries, one beef cheek with creamed potatoes. Very good meal, would recommend highly. Steak was the better of the...two dishes, but both good. Quality as good as in europe. Great staff.More

From start to finish I was very impressed with this little and cosy French restaurant. Delicious food, something to try when you are in Kyoto. We shared between the two of us , scallops, chicken liver paté, a plate of Spanish ham, a Boulliabaisse prepared...to perfection and I finishef with a sirloin steak wagyu. The quality of the food was outstanding and this could be seen in all of the dishes! If you are looking for a French cuisine in Japan this is the place to go with no doubt! Very friendly owners, great, relaxed service... Also we had a very nice bottle of champagne. Would definitely go back if i didn't have to leave! Japanese people have so much passion for food. We have a lot to learn from them.More
