Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tomisen has spectacular food and incredible service. The sushi and sashimi is fresh and the best I have ever had. My family and I were so happy for the opportunity to eat at this restaurant due to limited seating. This is a MUST while in...Kyoto!More

Small authentic place that needs reservations. Sitting on the floor with amazing service and food. This is a must visit place, walking distance from train station!

We ate the best sushi and tempura ever tasted! Kind and welcoming staff, super fast on preparing food, and very savory food. I don’t appreciate wasabi so much but this time it was perfectly mixed with fish flavor.

Authentic and quality sushi with fast service. The portions were large and we left feeling satisfied. Definitely choose this place if you’re looking for a great experience.

Food was memorable, couldnt get enough of the scallop and shrimp sushi - SO GOOD. Staff couldn't speak English but made good effort to communicate

Very substandard sushi/sashimi. Disappointed in overall service and taste. Plus, it was a smoking restaurant which was very bothersome.

We've been in this restaurant after reading positive reviews, but no one specified that you can smoke inside the restaurant! How can you allow to smoke in a place where you eat? Especially talking about sushi which requires both smell and taste? I don't give...1 star just because the sushi was better than other most noted restaurants, but after I inhale the smell of cigarettes I just couldn't taste the flavour of fish...I asked for the bill and get out fast!More

Found this place by coincidence. Family owned, they hardly speak English. But they were more than willing to make our stay enjoyable. There is only sushi on the menue, but it is delicious. We will come back next time we are in Kyoto. Highly recommended.

First time experiencing the traditional way of dining for sushi (taking shoes off and sitting zashiki style) and what better way to do this than at this great little family-run restaurant! Staff were super friendly & spoke just enough English for us to order everything...we wanted. Both owners were working away busily in the back making the food which was amazingly fresh. We had the mixed sashimi plate, deep fried chicken & squid, a variety of hosomaki rolls. I’d be happy to eat it all over again! Definitely recommend eating here but note, the place is super tiny, so get in early to avoid waiting!More

Had the best night here. So good. Do yourself a favour and come here for dinner. Had the tuna, eel, salmon roe, prawns, flatfish etc and they were all amazing but the beat thing was the tempura squid special! Great sake and great service. I...had to check out the photo on trip advisor to find the place though! Just behind the 7-11More

Overall experience was mixed. While the sushi was good, and price was decent, it was marred by subpar service. It took a while for them to prepare our sushi and when did it arrive, they had provided the wrong pieces. We also sat waiting for...someone to come by just to ask for green tea (it wasn’t provided at the onset of the meal). Overall, service was lack lustre. In addition, the table next to us started smoking. Given how small the restaurant is, the entire place filled with smoke.More

This is a very small and laid back place, with marvellous sushi. The owners are very nice and attentive. There is an english menu, but no one speaks other language than Japanese. Use Google Translator. The sushi quality is to die for. Special attention to...toro and unagui, but everything was fantastic. Highly recommended.More

A wonderful crowd-sourced find. I asked for omakase (chef's choice), while my wife ordered ala carte. We both had a great experience. Chef (and I think his family) was fast, attentive and so nice. The food was superb... so fresh I was amazed. Seven seats...at counter and I think 4-5 four-seat low traditional tables. Omakase + 3 other items + large Asahi (shared), was only 4,300 yen. A steal! We're going back in two days.More
