We booked Kigawa with the help of our friend in Japan. Reservation is highly recommended as this place is quite popular. We pre-ordered our sets for lunch (5k and 8k yen per pax) but they offered us a special menu for 7k per pax which costs 15k for dinner. 7k yen set is a set of 10 courses. Naniwakappo in... More

I adore this place. It's located along a little alley that looks like it came from another era. And the restaurant is small but really nice and clean. They have kindly prepared an English menu for us and explain the difference between each price tier. All three of us must choose the same tier so we go for the ¥8,000... More

If you want to experience traditional kappo cuisine, come here for a good value (it's still pricey but one of the better deals in town). They do all their fish courses and broths really well. Staff is friendly and speak some English.

We had ten courses. It was a truly beautiful meal and the service was just lovely. Interesting dishes, great sauces, lots of flavour. It was great watching the chef's at work. One of the staff spoke excellent English and they translated our menu. A very special lunch!

Great presentation. Meticulous food preparation. I ordered the 12,000 omakase course and left some of the dishes unfinished. Most if not all of the dishes failed to impress and the flavors didnt integrate well. The Kigawa original sashimi plate was subpar and is perhaps one the most uneventful and tasteless sashimi dishes I have had. The grilled wagyu beef had... More

Heard many of good word about the restaurant and also it is said that this restaurant trained numbers of Osaka top chef. So i decided to give it a try. As we enter the restaurant, we can immediately see the chefs are already doing their preparation for the lunch. There are 3 set menu that is available for the lunch... More

To be honest, I got this confused with Michelin starred Kigawa Asai, but saw that the chef of this restaurant was the father of kappo, so decided to give it a chance. Food was well executed and meticulously done. The essence of kappo can be completely understood from this experience. Watching the food being painstakingly prepared gives a deeper appreciation... After trying out the fine dining in Kyoto (which is kaiseki), we wanted to try the Osaka equivalent - naniwa-kappo. Kigawa comes highly recommended, which apparently trained many top chefs of Osaka. This is located in Hozenji lane, which is one lane away from the madness of Dotonburi lane. Once stepping out of the back alley, you come into a... More

This beautiful restaurant is an oasis in the heart of Dotomburi. There's a choice of a few set menus at different price points. The staff speak limited english but it is enough. A bit expensive but worth the splurge if you're willing to be taken on a journey that speaks of the intersection between past and present for refined Japanese... More
