The restaurant's architecture and ambience is really nice. The giant tortoise pen in the back is also a nice addition for tourists who want to add seeing them to their bucket list. The restrooms were not particularly clean. The home-made ice tea was perfect. The fruit bat curry, a signature dish of the island's cuisine, was better than expected. Not much meat, but wild, unique, spicy taste. The squid curry was cooked hard and not enjoyable. The service was rather slow but it is almost everywhere like this in that heat. The prices were listed without VAT on the menu, so it is rather overpriced when the bill arrives...

I'm really glad I made time to visit this beautiful, historic restaurant. The seating hostess is the granddaughter of the restaurant's founder, and she shared some of the history of her grandmother and the menu (unchanged for 50+ years!). I didn't realize it was a prix fixe menu, so be aware of that limitation. All of the dishes were in small portions to sample the different creole specialties. Some items are fried, some are stewed, some are salads. I was plenty full and didn't have room for the delicious-looking desserts (fried bananas, ice cream, etc.) Service was good.

My wife and I visited the Restaurant Marie Antoinette and we had a good experience with the food and the atmosphere of the place. Basically the only option for lunch we had was a set menu consisting of six tapas style dishes with one being chicken, two being fish based and the other three were vegetarian options. The mango salad was excellent as it was the time dish. The rest were tasty too. We personally found the cousins in the Seychelles not being great, however this restaurant raised the bar a bit. The location is a bit outside of the centre of Victoria, however very much within walking distance of the city centre. We didn't do any reservation and we had no issues finding a table for lunch. Worth mentioning they also have a few tortoises in am enclosed area of the restaurant, away from the restaurant tables. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Victoria and keen on trying local cuisine.

This place offers a set menu which has a selection of local dishes. Great way to try local food in a casual setting. Staff were very unfriendly and quite rude which took away from the experience

We are vegetarian so the only option was vegetable curry which was very average and over powered by cloves. Service was not great either as they were clearly understaffed with just 2 waitresses for the whole restaurant. Atmosphere is charming but we think completely over rated.

Staying at the Hilltop Boutique Hotel it was natural that I would also go the Marie Antoinette restaurant just below. Both places are run by members of the Fonseka family. Through friendly Irene at the hotel reception I had made a reservation for dinner at the restaurant, which had been started by her mother Kathleen back in 1972. The restaurant is in an attractive, mainly wooden colonial building from the mid-19th century, now put under protection as a national monument. I immediately liked the atmosphere. There is a beautiful interior, then a nice covered outdoor seating area with next to it a pen with some giant tortoises. Sitting outside at a small table with a strelitsia in a vase, I was lucky that I was able to taste the famous 'Signature Board' for two just for myself and for half price. It probably helped that I was a guest at the Hilltop and that the reservation had been made through Irene. The Signature Board, which apparently has remained unchanged since 1972, consists of 12 different plates according to the menu card. Of these I liked the Chicken Coconut Curry, the Grilled Red Snapper, the Pan Fried Tuna Steak with Creole Sauce and especially the Mango Salad. It also had a Green Salad, Rice, Fresh Chilly, a Local Fruit Chutney (this time from Papaya). What was missing was the 'Coconut Satini' (as a Chutney is called in Seychellois Creole). What I didn't like were the Beer Batter Parrotfish Fritters and the Aubergine Fritters, both with for me far too much batter, especially with the eggpants one could hardly taste the vegetable anymore. The parrotfish I ate by peeling it from the batter. Since so much comes together at the same time, one eats most of it cold. Staff had forgotten to bring me the wine I had ordered at the beginning, a Chilean Viña Maipo Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay and I had to repeat it several times. For such a famous place I had expected a higher standard service. Good at the end was the espresso by Lavazza and a dark local Takamaka rum.

Great Creole food, the best octopus curry I’ve had on the islands. The service is kind and attentive, albeit sometimes a bit slow, but it’s worth the wait! Try this place if you want to sample local dishes (which I think should be part of every holiday experience). The concept of serving smaller portions of many dishes is very appealing. To other tourists: please, please be respectful of local people and restaurant stuff!

Very nice dining room with a nice decoration and good ventilation through open windows. The tables are fairly close to each other. The COVID concept wasn’t very impressive. Self temperature check, self registration, and parts of the staff weren’t wearing masks. The staff wasn’t very attentive nor friendly. We ordered everything of everything. One two person order of the 5 course meals and one order of each tapas. The food was very good and the concept of serving many small dishes is very yummy. The best was the octopus curry. Definitely a bucket list item on Mahe.

The restaurant is spacious but could use a bit of TLC (for example, straightening the paintings every one of which is hung crookedly). Staff also were friendly but could also use a bit of spiffing up. We ordered the creole menu for two. They agreed to let us substitute some of the meat and fish dishes for vegetable ones and we are glad we did as the one fish dish we had was average. There is no free WIFI. But they do have an Aldabra turtle pen. Marie Antoinette was ok, but we far preferred the creole food and location at the Jardin du Roi, Spice Gardens. It was probably far better when Marie Antoinette was alive to run the place in the manner that made the restaurant an institution and introduced tourists to Creole food.

It looks like no other more-less normal place to eat near by. the food is simple and nothing interesting about it. Fried fish, veg. salads, mango-onion salad, steamed rise. Curry chicken is actually chicken bones with no meat...this was disgusting dish. The only positive moment is that your stomach will not feel bad after eating their food. The interior and exterior is not bad at all, historical items included. Service is not trained well. For example we have ordered 2 evening buffet dinner. But only after several dishes were served they told us about absence of 2 dishes (no tuna and no creole sous)... Instead on those, they served overdrive smallest on earth chicken leg and small pot of cheapest tea. they also have several big turtles in the yard. But it looks like they don't take care of them. Turtles are dirty and in very small room...very sad view.

We walked in without a reservation and was seated promptly. The highlight of this restaurant was the giant tortoises in the backyard but I cannot sincerely recommend the food. I was surprised to see the number of excellent reviews. The evening we visited they were only serving a Creole menu for two at 800 SCR. All the fish on the menu (parrotfish, tuna steak, red snapper fillet) were underseasoned, dry, and overcooked to the point of no return. It is a waste of fresh ingredients you could get on this island. When asked why the fish was served well done, we were simply told it is always prepared this way. This is simply wrong. The chunks of tuna steak were so dry and tough I would not have been able to tell it was tuna. The aubergine fritters arrived cold, slightly soggy, and tasted bland. The only decent dish was the chicken curry and the mango salad. The curry was flavourful and the chicken was tender. Do not bother with the fresh juices as they are watered down and pretty much tasteless. It was my first time trying a ladob for dessert but I was expecting this to be sweet, creamy, and tender. The banana was unripe, covered in mashed sweet potato, and had a soft crunch and a sour aftertaste. To be fair, overcooked fish seems to be a generic problem across the island and we have not had a decent (seafood) meal for the past two weeks. It is a shame as one would normally expect fish to be cooked to perfection in restaurants located right next to the coast with access to the freshest ingredients from the sea.

You absolutely have to go to Marie Antoinette if you are in Mahe for some authentic Seychellois food in a historic building. The menu is not extensive, look out for bat! I had their set menu which consists of a variety of traditional Seychellois food in small portions. Don't expect an amazing gastronomic experience but it is unique.

Maria Antoinette is a beautiful and outstanding wood and iron colonial historic mansion of 100+ years old. Abd the restaurant itself. It opened its door since 1972 by Mrs. Kathleen Fonseka and remained unchanged menu since its opening. There were grilled red snapper, battered parrotfish, light eggplant fritters, salad, tangy mango salad, and chicken curry. We loved almost everything on the table indeed. The portion and quantity was generous and the price was super reasonable. The ambience was very nice like we had stepped in a time capsule to 1970. There were also lot of giant tortoises pen in the back for us to enjoy watching them while waiting for the food. Highly recommend for truly authentic Seychelles Creole.

The food and atmosphere at Marie Antoinette were wonderful. They have a fixed tapas style dinner offering with 5 small plate entry type dishes for two people. It was more than enough food. It was so good that we went back the next day for lunch. I highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed!
