Having had my eye on this place for a while, I made it a point to squeeze in dinner while on the last day of a road trip. I had always seen the stairs and Union Jack up above, but never been inside. Being too fat for my ninja grappling hook, I had performed a Google search to get a... More

The Black Sheep is located in a 19th century brick building in the heart of downtown Ashland, a literal stones throw from the Shakespeare theaters on the hill above. It has a full bar and an English pub menu. NOTE: It's up a long flight of stairs and there is no elevator. The food is pretty good and so is... More

Just like a true pub, there was a fun atmosphere, pints of Guinness, board games and darts, overworked staff, and good music. On Sunday afternoons there is an Irish music group that was very good. Our group had a great time. We mostly had snacks and light food because we were not in the mood for pub food, I did... More

We stopped in on a Saturday right around 5pm. Things hadn't become busy yet. We were attended to promptly and service was good and timely. We though the food was very good. We had two different daily specials: a vegetarian option and a fish plate. Both were excellent. Comparing the prices of food and drinks to other, similar establishments, I... More

It was a slow Sunday evening, not at all crowded. The interior conveys a pub atmosphere complete with dart boards. But our server ruined the meal - he was wearing a very sweaty t-shirt and made a somewhat suggestive comment to my teenaged family member. Worse, the Cornish pastry was lukewarm and tough. Another diner barely touched her fish entree... More

We dropped into this amazing huge and comfortable old place by clambering up the huge staircase from the street. The large wooden bar is tempting but we found a seat at the window overlooking the square below. There is an amazing assortment of goodies to order, from the full bar and legion of beers & ales, to assorted UK meals... More

Oyster shooters, fish n chips and good ole banners and mash. A fun place to bring the family for a real Sunday treat. The Guinness is delicious.

When we arrived at about 5 pm, ere were few patrons in the place. Okay, we were early for dinner. The waitress was very pleasant and our food was served in a reasonable amount of time. Too soon for what I got. I ordered the fish and chips with peas. The homemade tartar sauce was very good and slightly cold.... More

Since 2014's off putting smell review I skipped the place entirely in 2015, but family decided they wanted scones this 2016 season. We went for lunch and there was no one there at noon. Not a good sign. Eventually, about 15 min from our arrival another 4-5 tables of 2-4 people did fill but now there was just the bartender... More

5 pm on a summer Monday, my fellow motorcyle traveler and I perched at the bar. We witnessed staff being well-trained in art of pouring a half-and-half that my buddy ordered. And I got a from-scratch, Hornitos margarita. Karen behind the bar was smart, skilled and helpful with dinner recommendations (Smithfields!). Fine selection of scotch ... and the Guinness is...
