This building was built in the 1700s and looks like it. It is poorly maintained, many of the chairs were wobbly, the tables were scratched and ours was dirty with some kind of sticky gooey stuff. The men's restroom looked like a small bomb had exploded in it. You had to physically lift the door to close it, the handle... More

Location: In front of the city Hall a block from King Street. The trolley has a stop on King St. 2 blocks from the waterfront. Arrival for lunch: The front door was heavy, push hard. 3 people in front of me. Line moved fast. The hostess offered us the wine list. This restaurant is decorated nicely. Even the table decor... I accidentally came across this gem while I was working in Alexandria. I decided to grab a quick lunch. I only ordered the French onion soup because I wasn't really too hungry. It was delicious. Staff was great and I can't wait to go back for dinner.

This is history. If you're in Alexandria or in a 200 mile radius you'd be crazy not to make the trip. Personally, I'm a sucker for history, especially American history. I took the tour (it's free). All of the furniture and decor in George Washington's home is original. I watched the chocolate being made. I then purchased the chocolate. We... More

The numerous reviews of Gadsby's tell again and again about truthful facts. This establishment is historical. 1790s! George Washington ate here more than once. Yup. :) I'd like to add that Gadsby's Tavern is not far from a free trolley stop on King St. Gadsby's location at 138 N. Royal St. is just a 90 second walk from King St.... More

While in Alexandria last weekend, we ate lunch at Gadsby's and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. From the freshly baked Sally Lunn bread to the onion soup, fried fish with French fries and crab cake with corn salsa and salad, all food was absolutely perfectly prepared from fresh ingredients.... Excited to visit obviously from the historic perspective. We had 3 kids and 3 adults. Came at opening time and was seated immediately. Loved the decor, place settings, and the ambiance. When u went down stairs to bathroom you felt like you were in the early days when Washington himself was there. Lunch was filling and great. Kids portions were... More

I have to admit, I went here not for the food, but for the history. The ambiance adds to the feel of knowing the historical significance of the place. We were seated in an elegant room and I ordered the surrey soup for starters. I then got the burger and fries. I've had better, but it was enough to curb... More

As for the first time, my second visit was a delightful experience. I enjoy the wonderful setting and the really delicious food. The service was excellent and our waiter was great. The birthday candle on the trifle was a nice touch!

To eat where our Founding Fathers have is priceless! Excellent food and friendly service with waiters in colonial attire. Filet Mignon, mashed potatoes and asparagus were terrific. For dessert the Banana Bread Pudding was awesome!
