Spicy Bloody Mary garnished with bacon & grilled cheese leaves you wanting more! Beer selection is great with seasonal changes, for those not fond of BM's. Brunch food is good, chicken & waffles are fun treat, but benedict dishes are great too. Tip ~ sit at the bar if the cafe is crowded, no smoke smell & service is great!

Went with family for Brunch on Sunday morning. The cinnamon roll was outstanding. As were the pancakes, and pimento cheese eggs benedict.

The staff of Evening Star has always gone out of their way to make sure me and my partner have a stellar, memorable experience, We've been to the restaurant on numerous occasions—from regular dining out to Valentine's Day—and it's always been a wonderful combination of great food, a cool atmosphere and excellent customer service. During one of our visits, there... More

This could b a real gem BUT looks like a neglected stepchild! The decor is horrible and the service is lousy ! We had lunch at The Front Porch and it really could b cute! It just needs some creativity and decor! Instead for years it has had a dirty window bay filled w faded coozies - come on! Have... More

I ate at Evening Star Café on April 20th with two friends. We ordered 3 different appetizers and shared them: Smoked Salmon Dip, Fried Oysters and Shrimp Hushpuppies, and our dinners were the Roasted Chicken Roulade, Fettuccine Alfredo and Grilled Strip Steak. We were all highly satisfied with our food choices. I travel for work several times a year to... More

We had read reviews of this restaurant and were expecting an exciting dinner experience. However, the options were more interesting on the written menu than on our plate. The smoked pork tenderloin was so intense that all other items served with it all took on the smoked flavor and lost their own individual flavors. The service was good but the... More

We were headed for another restaurant but we balked at the 40 minute wait so walked down the street and found Evening Star Cafe. The service was efficient but not rushed, the menu was comprehensive but not too large, the atmosphere was fun and the food was delicious. The only problem is that when the food got to the table... Evening Star has become an institution in the charming Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. It has been famous for years as one of the best places for good, down home southern cooking in the DC metropolitan area. The place was well known for some of the best fried chicken and shrimp and grits (with okra and Tasso ham) in town.... More

We were trying to get a table at a nearby restaurant for Easter Brunch and couldn't so we decided to try Evening Star. We ordered a donut to start and then ordered the Chicken and Waffles and the duck confit hash. The donut was okay...a little on the greasy side. The chicken was juicy/delicious and the waffle was crispy on... More

Aesthetically welcoming, but don't be misled. Even has seemingly trendy hipster bar. Problem is, the food is mediocre at best and most importantly the staff/management is pretentious. I guess due the paucity of decent restaurants in the area, they feel entitled. Why so much pretense for so little substance? Customer service is very poor. Del Ray is too great of... More
