Go for the standard pork soup dumplings. I tried the shrimp dumplings with vegetables and wasn't that impressed. Ask for vinegar, ginger strips and chili sauce. Be careful not to burn your mouth on the soup inside the dumplings. Put the dumpling in a soup spoon and take a small bite from the side to let the soup drain out.... More

Din Tai Fung originated in Taiwan but has spread it's base to several cities in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, the US, and possibly other parts of the world. As a for resident of Asia I can tell you that these restaurants are the best we have ever eaten it. If you are a dumpling buff there are dozens of different... More

It was my first time to Shanghai and a friend who goes there often on business highly recommended Din Tai Fung. He told me what his favorite dishes were and to try them. It took us two days to finally get to the restaurant - which is part of an Asian chain and there are (I think) 6 locations in... More

We actually wanted to try a more local XLB place than Din Tai Fung, since we've already tried their other branches in California and Tokyo. However, we wanted a late afternoon snack while we were in Xintiandi so we gave it a try. Since we came off peak there was no wait, but we were surprised to find it was... More

The service was extremely good and personal. Nice variety of xiao long bao and decent food choices. Not as cheap as I expected though...

Just came back from Din Tai Fung at Fashion Village near the Bund. Went on the strength of recommendations here. The steam buns and noodle dishes were quite tasteless and the drunken chicken which I bought to offset the starch, was an absolute joke. I do not exaggerate: barelyan ounce of chicken meat; half of which was inedible fat. And... More

My first great experience with dumplings. Even if you think you're not really into dumplings, the ones from Din Tai Fung will convince you

I went to two different locations of this restaurant on a recent business trip to Shanghai, Xintiandi and World Financial Center. I loved both. We had a selection of dumplings, spicy wontons and fried rice. We all loved it. This will be on my list of must go for all future trips to Shanghai and other cities where this restaurant... More

I have been to two other Din Tai Fung locations - one in China and the other in Bellevue, WA and dumplings and service were better at those than this one. We waited close to an hour which isn't that unusual so just walked around the mall where the restaurant is located. The restaurant had zero atmosphere and the dumpling... More

Price may not suit your budget but hey, this is Xintiandi, one of the most expensive area in Shanghai. Just live with it. Good food, not-so-friendly staffs.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
