If you are a tourist looking for great local seafood, this is the place. The gumbo is outstanding, filled with a ton of seafood, the shrimp platter was delicious, and their lunch special of fish pot boy w/ gumbo was more than enough to fill you up. Fun atmosphere and they boast the friendliest staff for good reason. Loved this... More

A group of 12 is not easily seated for lunch during Mardi Gras. The Original Oyster House greeted us with open arms. Everyone enjoyed hamburgers to seafood platters. The service was excellent! A large group was no challenge. Thank you Original Oyster House for making my dad's 79th Birthday special 🎉

Located right on the water. Food in all price ranges...fried, grilled, or baked selections. Very good service. Every item we've ordered has been good, and we frequently stop to take out food for home.

Were Mardi Gras shopping in Mobile and, remembered hearing about this place. We were immediately seated, a very attentive waitress, Mariah took our order and.... Fantastic Bloody Mary's, "Sweetwater 420" 'on tap', fresh turnip greens and, the best grilled oysters we've ever had !!! BEATS DRAGO's hands down. Most highly recommended and, you'll not be disappointed. We're headin' back soon... More

I was traveling through Mobile, yesterday, on I-10 and suggested to a co-worker that we get off the interstate, on the Causeway, and eat lunch at the Original Oyster House. I try to eat at the Original Oyster House every time I'm near there and I have rated them a 5 each time I've rated them before. They had the... More

Visited with 5 other people. Food was very good...but a little pricey. A few of us sent back the Mahi-Mahi to be cooked more and the disappointment on the waiter's face and his body language was that of disapproval. But other than that, the appetizers, drinks, and dishes were good. Busy place. Rebuilt several times due to previous hurricanes...their resilience... More

Why do I love their salad bar so much? Actually, I'm not even sure, but I know I do. While not very large, the combination of choices make for a very tasty salad every time. And while I'm told the locals think the quality of the seafood here has slipped a bit, I didn't find any evidence at this visit.... More

We visited on the advice of a local whom we met in Mobile. A fortuitous meeting. We started off with fire grilled oysters. The parmesan encrusted oysters had a nice creamy texture. The toasted butter bread performed the task of sopping the oyster juice perfectly. The next course was a sampling of fried oysters, stuffed shrimp and a glazed white... More

We stopped here on our way to Bass Pro Shop just east of Mobile, Alabama and the lunch business was hopping! Great location, great decor, GREAT STAFF and as a sign we saw afterwards boasted "best customers." Indeed, the crowd in what we call "LA" (Lower Alabama) was indeed expansive from workmen to businessmen to retired couples to "Ladies Lunch"... More

Description
Opening its first location in Gulf Shores in 1983, the Original Oyster House restaurant quickly expanded and opened its second restaurant two years later on the Mobile Causeway. It soon became known as a Gulf Coast favorite for panoramic waterfront sunsets on the Mobile Delta, fresh Gulf Coast seafood and award-winning gumbo. Classics such as hand-battered fried crab claws, blackened Mahi and fire-grilled Gulf oysters kept locals and visitors coming back for more. A visit usually includes kids on the playground, seafood platters and Southern hospitality. Along with its take-out, homemade desserts and seafood gumbo, the Original Oyster House has been sending alligators home in kid's meals, and gives back to our community in sponsorships and donations. It has been recognized for its environmental practices including converting its fry oil into biofuel to transport, its solar water heaters and the only wind turbine on the Causeway, which generates electricity when winds reach 8 miles an hour or more. in 2016, the Original Oyster House piloted Alabama's FIRST Oyster Shell Recycling Program.
