Thoroughly recommended. Very local - not flash, but homely and tidy.. Had a great time with friends off the cruise ship.

In an isolated small town the size of Hoonah (population about 750) there are certain amenities you just don’t expect, like a good Chinese restaurant. Yet there sits Mary’s Restaurant on the waterfront in the middle of town. And the food is indeed quite good. Owner Seon Lee offers a fairly extensive menu to please a wide variety of diners.... Mary's is our go to place here in Hoonah. You can choose either Japanese or American food, which is fresh and hot. On top of great food, it's literally on the water with windows overlooking the bay.

Based on their recommendation, we shared the Halibut fish and chips, and the pan fried Halibut (3 dishes for 5 of us). Best cooked Halibut on our trip. No need to add a lot of spices when you have fish that fresh. The fish and chips (halibut) was perfectly breaded as well so you got the real taste of the... More

Having asked local advice we were directed to Chipper Fish to eat - the "best in town". One look told us it wasn't for us but we stopped by Mary's and she convinced us we wanted to eat there. At the back there is a cafe style restaurant with comfortable chairs. Most of the group indulged themselves in Halibut and... More

I had the reindeer burger and halibut sandwich. The latter was far superior. I thought the burger was a little dry and the patty was small. The fish sandwich was excellent though and I'd definitely order it again. I asked for red velvet cake for dessert and got chocolate cake, which was just removed from the fridge or freezer. While... We sailed here from Juneau on a 28ft trimaran and two hungry sailors never expected to find a Chinese restaurant in a remote Alaska town which can only be reached by sea or air! But Mary's was a great and tasty surprise. Great waterfront views since the front of the restaurant is built over the water.

Mary's Restaurant is a quaint little place, but the food is outstanding. Please don't expect romantic atmosphere or any special ambiance, but do expect to have the best, and freshest halibut you'll ever eat! We found Mary's to be very clean and with a very friendly, attentive staff.

Great food from fresh halibut to reindeer omelette. Staff is friendly and entertaining. Prices are comparable to all the restaurants in Hoonah. It is my choice for dining when I am in Hoonah.
