This almost hidden (it is on the opposite outside of a one way tunnel) will give you the best fish sandwich's and meals you will ever find. Each dish is individually made for you and worth the wait as the lines are long but the customers loyal to this gem of a walk-up diner. One meal makes you a return... More

I am a local that recently moved from Seattle and I have tried fish n chips all over the world even in England. This is possibly one of the best fried fish I've ever had. I ordered the halibut with a side of chowder and slaw. Every bit of it was well prepared and delicious. The halibut was not overcooked... More

We spent 3 weeks in Alaska on out Honeymoon, including a cruise. This was definitely one of our best meals. Definitely the place to have lunch in Ketchikan-absolutely delicious!

Wife and I grabbed a quick fish & chips + chowder. Quite tasty and a nice change from eating on the ship. More normal food!!

This hole in the wall ca be easily missed, and woe to those who do. This family run business is down to earth or more appropriately close to the sea. The chowder is made from scratch and does not skimp on the clams, the haddock is fresh and fried perfectly, the fries are golden and the coleslaw crisp and tangy.... More

The tour bus driver commented casually that this is where he goes for fish and chips. Down near the docks where the fancy cruise ships port, I was surprised to find that it was a take-out joint. The $20 I spent on the fish, fries and cole slaw was the best $$ I spent on the cruise. My friend professed... More

This place was recommended in a guidebook on Alaska, and was worth the stop. We try to avoid overcrowded, commercialized eateries and gift shops and try to get the "local" experience. Not many chances for that within walking distance of the ship port in Ketchikan, but this was one of the exceptions. All our guidebook said was "don't miss the... More

A bit difficult to find, but well worth the effort. We checked on-line and saw that this place had received high ratings, as well as recommendations from the locals we asked. I have had halibut from many different places here in Alaska, but this place beats them all, hands down. The service is amazing. We got there right as they... More

Don't mess with any other restaurant for lunch in Ketchikan! Alava's is quite small and the lines can get long but if you've got the time it's worth it. The chowder, the cod and slaw = amazingly delicious. Good size portions! Thinking about it now makes me hungry for it. A little hard to spot its located right in front... More
