A wonderful place to have a meal or just a beer. Great bar staff, friendly locals will even invite you to play darts if you show the slightest interest, meals are great value for money and presented well, beer I find slightly over priced but a good selection non the less, certainly worth a visit if you are passing through... Went to the Pioneer first time about a week ago for a "Weissbier" and was pleasantly surprised about the friendly and informative barman serving me a fresh Paulaner($7.50)from the tap. The interior of the bar is dominated by two large TV screens showing sports but has an overall modern sophisticated ambiente with a fireplace build into the wall separating the... More

Mum and I came here for a meal and expected a decent feed. We got undercooked steak and an average burger which resulted in me meeting with the toilet. Your "sundae" was icecream and topping and you couldn't taste the hokey pokey at all. The only thing decent was the glass of cider. It was not worth $80 and I... More

The Pioneer is tucked away under the hideous Nautilus building, set a bit back from the main drag of Orewa. We visited with friends on a Saturday afternoon and were surprised to see the place totally deserted. The German owner was friendly and the place did have a Teutonic vibe, although considering it was Christmas time the decorations were very... More

We pre booked a fixed meal for 25 people and it went well. Our roast dinner was served to all of is in a short time. The meal was cooked well the vegetables firm as I like them. The sweet was well presented. The bar has a really good range of draught beers, the German wheat beer brought back memories... More
