My wife & I stayed at Blas at Fronlas for 2 nights in March 2020. We had a delightful bedroom overlooking Market Street with an en-suite shower room. The room was very well appointed and we had use of a separate sitting room with tea & coffee making facilities. It was very, very comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay. The owner, Lindsey, was an absolute treasure. So were her lovely team in the restaurant; nothing was too much trouble and everyone was very attentive to all of our needs. The B&B package was incredibly good value for money and the food was absolutely delicious. If you are visiting this beautiful part of Wales and need a truly special place to stay, don't hesitate to book your stay at Blas at Fronlas. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

Thank Heaven for Fronlas. We go there every time we visit Newport because the food and drinks are of a very high standard while the service is quick and friendly. But this year we love it especially because they have continued to serve customers when other places are closed because of C19. Of course they observe the rules of distancing and hygiene, but they just get on with it. Our light lunches of things like prawn baguette and cheese and ham melts washed down with cider or wine have been delightful and the costs surprisingly light.

I would highly recommend this cafe for breakfast, lunch and the b&b above. We always come here when we are visiting Newport, it’s great out of season too as always seems to be open when other places are closed and very cosy in the winter months with the wood burner and warm & friendly welcome from the owner and the staff. The menu is small but changes regularly so always has something new to try and all delicious home cooked with a good variety of daily specials and vegetarian options, also dog friendly and we were able to book 1 night in the b&b which was really handy as most places have a minimum of a 2 night stay, the staff were very friendly and relaxed, the only difficult thing was having to walk past the array of cakes on display ( sugar free January ) on the way up to our room. Really lovely place Jo & Alex north London

I called with friends after a walk and they knew we were coming. They had to move people already seated to accommodate us. The service was quite slow. I had lemon drizzle cake. I was amazed anyone could cut a slice of cake that thin, could almost see daylight through it. Prices were high so Blas wins the prize for the worse value for money cake I have ever encountered in the world

We've just had the most fantastic mini break here. We didn't think we'd get to visit our happy place ,Newport, this year due to the pandemic but Blas at Fronlas have opened their doors in the cafe and their B&B rooms. We had the twin room with separate bathroom. It is a decent size for 2 to share and really nicely decorated and furnished. The upstairs sitting room is equally lovely and has fabulous views over the rooftops out to sea. Everything was set up really well for social distancing and minimising risk of spreading the virus, whilst still being comfortable and welcoming. Lindsey and her team are brilliant at making you feel special and looked after. The breakfast is amazing as is everything else in the menu. It was quite hard to get anywhere to sit and eat in the evening due to covid restrictions, so we asked Lindsey if we could order a sharing box for the evening. Lindsey couldn't have been more helpful and provided us with a delicious and very generous platter of food that we thoroughly enjoyed in the patio garden later on. We've eaten here many times over the years but this was our first stay- I almost don't want to say how good it was because I want to be able to book another time!! You will not be disappointed! Lindsey is a wonderful host!

During these difficult times Fronlas is providing a great service with excellent takeaways. We had a Ploughmans and a fish "box" - both filled with the same great food that we would have eaten had we been able to dine at Blas. We also had tasty toasted sandwiches and great coffee on a lunch visit. No room in their garden but there are seats and tables in a little public garden just a few steps up the road - behind the hydrangas! Definitely recommend and will hope to visit again soon.

We stumbled across Blas and was lucky to get a table, lucky was an understatement. The atmosphere and decor made us feel relaxed and the staff were extremely welcoming. Then the food arrived…. It was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. We quickly devoured the fisherman’s and vegetarian board and contentedly started to think about settling the bill . That was until a homemade cheesecake went past the table…. how could I refuse. Believe me it was well worth undoing my belt for. Blas is a little gem in a beautiful and would recommend it to anyone. Rest assured when we re in the area we will definitely call in.

What a disappointment. We visited today (3/11) after having many a lovey visit on previous holidays. We arrived (4 adults, 6m old baby and 3 dogs). We agreed with a very polite waitress that we would wait for a large table inside.. not a problem. Happy to wait as we love this place! Little did we know our opinion was about to change. We waited for 30 minutes to see the large table being cleared… hooray! Only then for an elderly gentleman to walk in and be seated and served at said table. After a further 10 minutes, we remind the owner we are waiting for a table, to be told sharply no tables had come available yet. Lies! We see the polite waitress who we first spoke to appear from the back and speak to the owner, pointing to us, the table and the gentleman. The owner reappears and abruptly tells us they are asking the gentleman to move as she only seated him as he has mobility issues. Lovely, thanks. Would have been nicer with a smile, or better yet a simple explanation at the time to say “i know you’re waiting, but whilst we wait for another smaller table to become available we will just seat this gent here and get you in shortly” would have gone a long way. We’re shown to our table by the original polite waitress. Our order is taken. We wait another 1hr 15 minutes for our food, whilst being ignored by the owner entirely. Funnily enough, two parties with whom the owner was very friendly and who were seated after us received their food promptly.. strange. Food arrives but lacking crisps with the sandwich and no cutlery in sight. We ask for cutlery twice to be given 2 forks and 3 knives, but that’s okay because by this time we had waited so long i’d eaten my salad with my fingers! As they say, your customers won’t love you for bad service, but your competitors will! Time for Newport to get another cafe!

The service we had at Blas at Fronlas restored our faith in Newport hospitability! We were camping nearby for 4 nights and called in on a drizzly day for coffee and cake (having called in a few shops and had a less than enthusiastic welcome!)...…..it's obviously very popular and was full but they were so accommodating and after a short wait we were seated. The service was brilliant and the cakes were amazing. The lunch menu was so tempting that we regretted having had a big breakfast earlier ......... highly recommended and we will definitely return!

What a lovely little find in Newport. We stayed B&B and I must say, from checking in with our host to checking out was an absolute chilled back experience, exactly what I needed and a pleasure. Room was cosy, clean and the facilities were homely. Breakfast was beautifully cooked using good ingredients and the best coffee to enjoy in their lovely suntrap of a garden. Staff were really welcoming, helpful and added a lovely personal interaction to the whole experience. Dog friendly and a popular restaurant we returned for lunch where their homemade cawl and Ploughman cheeseboards were exceptional. If you're ever in the area you must try this lovely little gem.

Very very slow service here today. Yes they were busy but it got beyond a joke when the drinks took half an hour to come. Food- please if you advise something as on toast, please make sure it’s on toast not on soggy bread with slightly singed edges. It’s a pet hate but also really not acceptable. I asked for my white toast to be more toasted and a good 15 mins later they brought a different bread but the same only singed edges. I declined it. When you pay when you order there is no chance to query what you are paying for if it’s not right. Please look after your local people as well as those who come to their second homes. One day you might need us!!

Our first holiday in Wales, staying just outside of Newport we came across the lovely cafe and had the Spanish hot chocolate..best ever!!Next day after a beautiful walk along the coast had coffee and cakes…very tasty!! Day after we decided to have breakfast, Scrambled Welsh eggs on toast with smoked salmon and the Blas cooked breakfast..delicious!! On our last day we had lunch, fisherman’s board, the homemade mackerel pate was superb, and the farmers board. Great service, dog friendly, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

We called in for a late lunch thinking the place was full but was very pleased to be shown a table in a lovely garden area at the rear of the cafe. The food was of a very high standard & the portions were very generous. The staff were very friendly & helpful. For dessert we ordered the lemon cheese cake on a ginger base with fruit coulis . The cheese cake was the best I've ever had very light & creamy & the biggest portion I've ever seen. Unfortunately the finishing touch of the fruit coulis was missing. Normally I would have said nothing but it would have made the desert perfect. So I asked about the coulis. They had run out but sent someone to a local shop and returned with a bowl of fresh strawberries & raspberries for my dessert. That's what I call service, thanks to everyone at the cafe for a very pleasant lunch.

We found Blas on a wet and windy day in October and it's an absolute gem. It's a cosy cafe inside with street-side seating at the front (good for people watching) and a lovely garden at the back (l imagine it's perfect when the sun shines). The staff were all very friendly and chatty and very accommodating of our two medium sized dogs, even though the cafe was really busy. The cafe has a licence and a good range of good beers and quality wines, including locally brewed beers. The food is all good wholesome stuff and all freshly baked on the premises. The menu included sharing platters, quiche, soup, proper Welsh cawl and paninis. They also had a good breakfast menu that I'd like to try someday. There was also a wide range of freshly baked cakes on offer and locally roasted coffee. We chose the ham, cheese and leek quiche and it's no exaggeration to say it was the best I'd ever tasted. We had room for a small slice of orange almond cake which was fresh, moist and delicious. Blas was a perfect stop on our walk and has to be one of the best cafes in Pembrokeshire. We will be back for sure.

Since moving to the area recently we have found this little gem on the Newport Market street. We have sampled the breakfast while sitting in the delightful garden to the rear of the cafe. Gorgeous filling cooked breakfast using local ingredients. Various lunches have be devoured accompanied either with the amazing coffee that gets served or alcoholic drinks including wine and Prosecco. My favourite lunch has been the farmers board, which included, cheeses, bread, crisps, sausage roll, salad and fruit. The cafe has a very relaxed feel and you are always made to feel welcomed by the fantastic owner Martina. My wife and I visit on a weekly basis now and we absolutely love it here.
