A delicious Sunday roast with fantastic vegetables and first class friendly service: probably the best roast lunch we have had eating out ever and good value …. We will be back!

Reading the reviews, we were expecting a really special meal but it was actually quite average and very overpriced.if you’re looking for a special meal in Newport, I recommend the Llys Meddyg for a much better meal and better value.
Good welcome and friendly staff. Shown to table quickly and water arrived straight away. Food order taken quick and food arrived fast. Good flavour and value for money. My only comment is same as always can't call a pie when topped with puff pasty but...that's me. The flavour was good and lots of filling and veg. Definitely return soon well next baby sitter avaliable.More
In all respects this was good without being excellent. Some staff great, others need more training, food OK without being top rate and same with beer. Certainly nothing wrong with the place
We thought we'd give this a go after reading many good reviews, wasn't disappointed apart from what seems to be the norm in this part of the country, a small menu choice. What we did choose was plentiful and well cooked and an ok price....No quibbles about having a dog with us. Were made welcome and never had to wait long for the food to arrive. Have to order from the bar but that's not a problem. Again as some of my previous reviews if only the menu offered a few more choices it would be right up there as the go-to pub in the area.More
An absolutely lovely evening meal, with excellent service, even though very busy. We sat in The Shed area, which was fun, and dog friendly. Have booked to go again.
This was our fifth visit before and after lock-down. The service in the bar and the quality of the evening meals was exceptional ( we had previously stayed at a 2 star Mitchelin Hotel). Rooms could do with a little TrC but still a great...location and vfmMore
We were recommended this place. We booked for Sunday Lunch and it was fantastic. Friendly service, nice traditional pub decor, fabulous roasts - all the trimmings and so much veg alongside.
Arrived on a nice sunny early evening for a pint with a couple of friends. We used to visit the GL regularly, used to have a great atmosphere for a drink, game of pool, catch up with friends - sadly no longer the case. Arrived...and walked to the bar to order our drinks, but we’re told we could only order if we were going to sit outside of the pub with the drinks. No pool table either. Inside is reserved for eating only. All pub tables were booked up like a restaurant and you can’t stand at the bar with a drink. Then there’s the prices! I know there target audience are holiday makers from london, but a pint of coke was over £5! So we went to the llwyngwair arms instead. We felt much more welcome there.More

Family of 4 and the dog! It was the last night of our weeks holiday and thought it would be nice to have a meal here. It was a god choice. We were in the bar instead of the restaurant but it was still lovely...and cosy, tasteful decor and plenty of staff who were all really friendly and polite. Between us we had a burger, lentil cottage pie, vegetable thai curry, eaton mess, peanut chocolate brownie with ice cream and a round of cappuccinos with oat milk. All were delicious and everyone was happy. We couldn't fault the place. Would definitely visit again.More
Best pub Sunday roast dinner we’ve had. One meat eater and one veggie. Selection of veg accompanying the main was delicious and lots of variety. Generous portions. Great service from staff too. Will be back.

Very disappointing experience. We had been there several times in the past and the food was excellent. This time the fish was like from a bad chip shop! And the prices way too high for what we ate. We both had indigestion afterwards. I think...the chef has changed. Not going againMore
