Glyn and Alison, have run the Castle Inn since 2016. A family-run pub, restaurant and rooms located on the Pembrokeshire coast - just a 5 minute walk from the beach. Having worked in kitchens all her life Alison has gone from helping college students progress their skills in culinary classrooms to heading up the Castle Inn kitchen. Her team are keen to support local as much as possible, using nearby suppliers whenever available. The menu is ever-changing but you are sure to find hearty pub classics, light bites, and family favourites throughout. The Inn also has three guest bedrooms (with en-suite bathrooms and tea/coffee facilities), a large beer garden, free off-road parking, and is dog-friendly.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food was excellent could tell the chefs knew what they were doing couldn’t fault it, all servers were extremely attentive especially the younger girl with glasses even asked about our day and where we was staying. Would definitely return if we ever come back and would 100% recommend to others.
Thanks again

We had a great Sunday lunch here; I had roast beef and my wife had roast pork. My wife has to be gluten and dairy free and was well catered for, even down to a portion of cauliflower "cheese". There were several other gf dishes available. The staff were well informed and reassuring when dealing with dietary requirements. They also had zero alcohol beer on draught.

Glyn and his team are always the perfect hosts. We have been dining there for the past 5 years with friends and family. Whether it’s for dinner, drinks or Sunday roast, the food is consistently delicious and great value

Really dog friendly and nice venue. The food and experience was great but slightly overpriced. However the vegetarian options were drastically overpriced. Roasted Cauliflower roast dinner option was £20, the same as meat roast dinner but without the meat or Yorkshire pudding. Really needs looking at, especially as you get cauliflower with both options.

We visited in November 2024 and again in March 2025. On both occasions we had Sunday roast, an evening meal, popped in for a few drinks after a long walk and for this time we watched the rugby. We always had a warm welcome, drinks were always well kept and food was always excellent. When we visit again will definitely return and think the way both locals and visitors are treated with kindness and respect make this such a fabulous place to visit. Would recommend to anyone looking for a warm, friendly place to eat and or drink.

We’ve eaten a few times (while on holiday) and the food is delicious. The staff are very friendly and there has always been a nice welcome. Most recently we had Sunday lunch (including a vegetarian one) and it was lovely. Generous portions (except the tiny gravy jugs!) and all well cooked and really delicious.
Like everywhere in Newport, this place is very popular and gets booked up. We booked a table but it was given to another family - luckily there was another table available but the pub was otherwise full so it could have been tricky. Definitely book early.

We enjoyed a meal at the Castle Inn whilst staying in Newport, with family.
We were a large group of 8 adults, 1 child age 8, 1 child age 2 and 2 aged 6 months.
I had booked in advance and Glyn had called me to discuss our requirements.
I tried the mackerel pate starters and the fish and chips, both were utterly delicious! I also tried the Sea Pups (messy chips) which were amazing!
Glyn and the staff we met were warm, welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was equally friendly.
The team also bought out a chocolate brownie and sang happy birthday to my Son, who was celebrating a birthday.
Accessibility: The Castle Inn is a beautiful traditional old building and people who have mobility issues and or use mobility aids, could call ahead regarding access. I myself am an ambulatory wheelchair user and folded my chair/walker to get into the area we were seated.
I highly recommend The Castle Inn!
Thank you Glyn, Alison and the team

We came last Sunday into the Pub at 1pm and should get the same meal as the other guests. We chose at the bar, payed 65 £ and after 50 minutes somebody of the kitchen came to us telling that we have chosen on the wrong card which was not for the „Sunday“ menus. After having got the 65£ back it was 14.30 pm and on the valuable menu card only the Hamburgers were left which we chose because at this time we found nothing else. After half an hour we became our 2 plates with real misery on it. The Burgers were like stones without any taste. With this fat onion rings and mud chips which had waited to be served. All that was uneatable. At 3.30 pm we escaped hopeless and hungry. We never had an experience like that and think that the Castle Inn is a shame for the local kitchen.

We ate here a few weeks back and the only thing I can think is the chef was having a bad day since the reviews on here are mostly so positive. The burger and sweet potato fries they served were in no way worth the money they are now charging. I appreciate the cost of ingredients have risen but that still doesn’t justify charging the amount they do without delivering on quality. We will try eating there again to give them a second chance but if they fail to deliver like they did the last time we won’t be going there again as there are constantly better places to eat in Newport. Also, £35 for a steak if you want peppercorn sauce, outrageous. The golden lion which had historically been overpriced currently charges £27 for the same dish which again is expensive in it’s own right but appears a bargain compared to what the Castle charge…….These places are purely pricing their menus for the rich second home/ holiday let demographic.

A large group of friends stumbled across this lovely pub. We had dogs with us so we sat outside in the garden which was ideal. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. There is a varied menu from small snacks through to full meals and a well stocked bar with seasonal specials such as mulled wine available too. Despite us turning up without booking all of our food and drinks arrived quickly and were very tasty. A real gem of a place and we’ll certainly be back when we’re next in the area.

What a fantastic pub, from the moment you enter your feel at home. The welcome from the staff was excellent, ams immediately makes you feel like you're a local. I had my dog with me & he was welcomed with biscuits & cuddles.
I had a couple of delicious real ales as I saw the review in the CAMRA Good Beer guide and needed to try some. The Butty Bach was perfect as was the local Bluestone ale. They are also part of the Cask Marque, which shows as the quality of the ale is outstanding. Thomas the very friendly bar manager told me they are also Guniness accredited, so the attention to detail with their ales & beer are second to none. No other pubs in Newport or North Pembrokeshire are associated with these trade related checks.
The food looked delicious so had a pizza which was excellent and very reasonably priced.
I can't praise this pub any more, so if you are a pub lover and especially like high quality ale, beer, cider and delicious home cooked food, then the Castle won't disappoint. My dog & I didn't want to leave

Went in for an impromptu lunch and was welcomed! Although a Sunday, we had no issues ordering something that wasn't a Sunday lunch and given they were busy, the food came In a reasonble time. Good selection of drinks including a couple of real ales and our food was just what we needed ranging from a light bite fish and chips to a dirty chips bowl that was very generous. They were also great with dogs and had a special menu for 4 legged friends! Comfortable outside seating and really friendly service made this a winner!

We visited the castle several times during our stay. On our first visit we were made to feel like we were regulars by all members of staff and the customers. The staff are friendly and courteous at all times and nothing is too much trouble. Our 2 German Shepherds were thoroughly spoilt with biscuits and fresh water. The food was excellent with a good choice. I had chicken goujons with messy chips and my wife had a ‘small’ roast dinner which was a very generous portion. There is an outside seating area which is under cover and running water with dog bowls ideal after a visit to the beach.

We had four evening meals at The Castle during our stay and the experience was off the charts each time. Regardless of how busy they were, we always got a great welcome and the food was absolutely sublime. Great place, great people and great food.

A lovely pub with lots of character and space inside and out. What a fabulous Sunday lunch - the beef was cooked to perfection with lots of vegetables, a plentiful delicious plate of food thoroughly enjoyed by all. The owners and team of staff are really accommodating and can’t do enough for you. I would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely be returning. Thank you for a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
