This restaurant used to be really good. What a disappointment it has become. A couple of us ordered seafood platters and most of it was of disappointing quality and grossly over cooked. The manager had an unfriendly attitude and was argumentative. She hasn’t learnt the...More

A nice atmosphere and in my experience always reasonably busy in a tourist trap with plenty of alternatives. I enjoy the blend of Thai flavours with local ingredients such as Ostrich creating relatively unusual and tasty dishesz

Situated right by Nelson Mandela’s giant statue the Wangthai serves very decent Thai food. The service was prompt and pleasant, and the atmosphere relaxed. The Tom Yum Goom soup was excellent and the green curry had a gentle kick, although it was ordered to be...More

The starters of fish cakes and prawn parcels with plum sauce were delicious. For main course we both had duck, a red duck curry and an angry duck, both delicious as well. Service was quick and informed and wine list included a wide variety.

Had lunch here on Saturday afternoon. I loved the ambiance. The food was fresh and tasty but not too many options for vegetarians. I had some corn filled samosa type starter which was quite tasty. The pad Thai I ordered for my main was awful....More

Decided to go to this restaurant on a Tuesday night after viewing a number of other restaurants within the area. Ordered 3 different vegetarian meals and was pleasantly taken aback. Taste was amazing. Presentation of the food not really the best but the taste will...More

Description
The flagship of the Thai Africa Group is undoubtedly Wangthai Sandton which overlooks the prestigious Nelson Mandela Square. The most authentic Thai restaurant outside of Thailand. Wangthai Sandtonalso serves the DIY dining experience: sensational Thai Suki Hot Pot. A culinary concept which dates back over 1 000 years in Asian history, Thai Suki Hot Pot today - continues to tantalise the pallet and tease the senses with its fragrant oriental flavours. Best enjoyed as a group affair; the Thai Suki Hot Pot sees an aromatic broth, brimming with flavourful Eastern ingredients, placed in a pot, and atop an induction stove - within the centre of the table. This simmers away throughout the evening, while guests gentle poach their favourite selection of fresh ingredients. There is very little effort involved, other than to indulge, at leisure, in the refreshingly light tastes of Thailand. Wangthai, invites both businessmen and women, as well as the social sect, to sample this ancient cooking tradition, to which it has added a unique measure of contemporary stylishness.
