Soweto, baby, that's what I'm talking about! On my final day of a three week trip to South Africa, I had my driver take me back to Soweto, which I had visited earlier in the trip, so I could do some final shopping at the street vendors, and have a last bit of African food. First off, Sakhumzi is a... More

We ate here during a tour of Soweto. The food on the buffet was tasty and provided an authentic meal. I saw both tourists and locals eating here, which was nice as sometimes the "authentic" restaurants are solely for the visitors, not for those living in the area. I enjoyed the meal and the ability to sit outside to watch... More

Enjoyed authentic food buffet lunch with a variety of delicious foods and deserts. The buffet included vegetarian options and ice creams. Enjoyed the street view while dinning. The place gets busy but lines move fast.

Mix with the locals and enjoy good food. This is a good restaurant to have lunch before visiting the Nelson Mandela house. It's a buffet with lots of variety. Food was very fresh. They also have local hip/hop dancers who perform for tips.

Sakhumzi is an institution and looks like a must do after visiting Mandela's house, definitely a tourist attraction. The ambiance is nice, the staff friendly, a group of singers sang a few traditional songs which was the highlight of our lunch. They serve buffet lunch, food is good but used to be much better, it seems they are putting less... More

Went with a tour guide. Had chicken with a sweet glaze, chips and pap which was very tasty. Good atmosphere too - lots of locals partying in the street. I wasn't expecting Cape Town prices in a township - but the restaurant is on the same road as Mandela's former home and Desmond Tutu's current home when he's in Joburg... More

The restaurant is located in a tourist road of Soweto but it is attended by locals too. It offers South Africa typical buffet for lunch : meat and rice etc.. The staff is friendly and iy has a big terrace to eat outdoor. Don't expect fine dining or a trendy environment but it is a good stop visiting Soweto.

Every so often I crave istamp. As a vegetarian this is one of two South African dishes I can enjoy. So a suburban restaurant can get it wrong, but not the hood. They should improve their food. The stars are for the waitress and the general vibe on a Sunday.

I took a group of MBA students on a study tour to Sakhumzi after visiting Mandela's house. Everyone had a great time. The music was awesome. The buffet was full of South African entrees; the choices were tasty. Overall it was great value and a good SA experience.
