Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The location is fairly unique and our Uber driver had never driven there before. But what a treat when we arrived - lovely decor, soft music and a warm welcome. The eclectic menu had something for everyone, the wine list plentiful and the staff were...efficient and friendly. The food was beautifully presented and we found it great value for money. Highly recommended.More

We were looking for a different menu, so after a couple of hours searching found The Wild Fig in the Observatory area of Capetown about 7 km away from the centre. A students area but this was nor at all studently. The menu was interesting...from afar but even better up close. Many cheaper staples to eat burgers and expensive options like steaks, but I wanted specials not easily found. The restaurant is friendly with a good outside space. We didn’t like the outside tent but I had been specific, a table for two, with a shade, sitting side by side in the sun. Lovely surroundings. The bar manager curated a great sound track of all my favourites without knowing my taste, good music as well. I started with bone marrow in the bone topped with steak tartare and anchovy’s, a clever combination. I followed up with crocodile carpaccio a daring dish, executed perfectly. My wife had babbaganoush with crispy aubergine topping and delicious crisp flatbread, followed by perfectly cooked yellowtail fish, a good chunk not thin fillet, Al dente vegetables and perfect roast potatoes on the side instead of rice. Our lovely waitress Kate was apologetic they only had one rose wine but it was cheap 140 rand (£7) au bottles oh so cheap. The entire beautiful meal perfectly served and hosted by Kate, a soon to be acting star hopefully, with wonderful other staff, came to a surprising Low £50 including Two bottles of South African nectar . Worth the short drive for a relatively cheap exceptional meal. Can’t wait to see Kate as Lady Macbeth, she will be stunning.More

Fabulous setting in a garden and exciting new menu with yummy food reasonably priced. Staff very welcoming - we stopped here en route to Airport to escape traffic. Smart idea to avoid Friday num per to bumper traffic and alternatively avoid a bad burger at...the airport while waiting!More

I visited the Wild fig restaurant quite a few time as I used to live in Rosebank. There has always been a good food selection on offer. Last saturday, I came to watch the Rugby world cup as they were advertising the screening of the...game. I had a table at the bar. Excellent Burger and pepermint crisp. Had a nice evening. Friendly vibe as well.More

Two friends out for a meal. We shared the platter as our starter it was beautifully presented and a ample for the two of us. Slowly Braised Karoo Lamb Ragout and Grilled Pork Neck were our choices for the main meal. The Rogout was very...tender and tasty and the Pork cooked perfectly. We both agreed that the Ragout was an excellent choice and a flavoursome meal. Dessert we shared the Wild Fig Mess - decadent with the sweetness of the cream and the tartness of the berry coulis and the lemon curd was lovely. Pleasant service and a nice eveningMore

A group of colleagues went to the Wild Fig on Thursday at 16h30 for an early meal. We were 4 women, including international guests. We have always had good service here before and used the Wild Fig often to entertain colleagues, though we have not...been here since COVID. We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived. As three of the women had large handbags we put these on an extra chair which we added to out table. Shortly after ordering the manager came and removed the chair, saying it was needed for the adjacent table. By the time we left at 18h30, the restaurant was about 50% full, said table was still unoccupied and several tables (and chairs) were not in use. When pointing this out to the manager and suggesting that it was not unreasonable to have an extra chair at our table as so many were vacant, we were met with defensiveness, lack of customer-orientated approach and, quite frankly, rudeness. I will not be entertaining colleagues at the Wild Fig again and will not be visiting myself.More

I ordered the lamb shank (at R 220). The meat was of poor quality. Tough, and stringy, prepared and presented unimaginative and poorly for the price charged. The service matched the food. Uncaring and defensive when I complained. I left the restaurant feeling done in,...and looking for dental floss to remove half the lamb shank stuck between my teeth! This is not a restaurant that I will recommend to anyone.More

It's easy venue if inviting old friends from north, south and Atlantic seaboard. I corresponded with Sophia, who was excellent and was there on the day. They have set menus but decided to go a la carte, which could lead to massive delays if you...have a large group. Sophia printed special menus for us and even offered the Sunday roast as a mains. We were split into two tables and first tables orders came out first and then the second very quickly. Everybody raved about the food in messages we received afterwards. I was a little uncertain of red wine to serve at the table so had a little free sampling at the cozy bar and chose 2013 Wild Fig Reserve , which was smoother than a politicians election speech. ( A real Gem at about R180). Service was unobtrusive and perfect and very good value.More

Looks like this place may have suffered during Covid and may need time to get back on track. Nice location. Good vegetarian options. Very pleasant service.
