If you ever want to have an experience of a live time, than visit this family run restaurant. The service is personal and never dull, you can have a good laugh during your breakfast, lunch or diner. The dishes are well prepared, with much love and care. The atmosphere is beyond what you expect and everybody goes the extra mile... More

This place is quite easy to miss, but we were so fortunate to stumble across this gem for lunch. It is a small place, with a really nice outside space. The service was excellent, really really excellent. And I am pleased to say the food was excellent too, quiche is amazing and the salads were so good. Highly recommend

Great atmosphere friendly staff. Service with a smile. Food fresh and well priced. The restaurant is away from the hustle and bustle of the sea front.

This quaint restaurant is located in the heart of Hermanus and run by a mother/daughter team. The menu is modest, but everything is beautifully prepared and delicious. They serve breakfast, coffees and teas and lunch and dinner on some evenings. Well worth a visit!

Always an excellent breakfast place. Lunch today was once again no disappointment. I ordered the Hake which comes with chips and a garden salad (which I normally hardly taste). This is the FIRST garden salad that I have finished ... well done Cuckoo tree. The hake was mouth watering melting in your mouth ... and the homemade tarter sauce ....... More

We had lunch here twice on our recent visit to Hermanus. It's quite a busy place and the menu is varied and interesting and the food is good. Worth a visit.

Very pleasant place to relax and enjoy their cappuccino and cheesecake. Tucked away in the corner opposite an Italian restaurant you can sit inside or outside weather permitting. Owners very hands on and friendly.

The Cuckoo tree has been our family's breakfast favourate for probably the best part of 20 years. The friendly and superb service, together with the consistently excellent food, makes this restaurant a 'must visit' when in Hermanus. The food is always prepared perfectly without exception and great value for money. You will not be disappointed.

The most consistently excellent restaurant. Service excellent and food delicious and fresh. They are also willing to tweak a dish so the menu is more extensive then it looks. Despite many visits never disappointed.

Vegetable and bacon soup and chocolate mousse cake for dessert. The place was full and the staff so friendly. There was a group celebrating an occasion and tourists trying out various dishes.

Description
The Cuckoo Tree was recommended by a friend. Had it not been we would not have come across it. Seating only ablout 30 people, it is an elegant and warm restaurant, run by a mother and her daughters. Lovely ambience, we noticed the others there looked like people "who know their food". An advanatage is you can take your own wine without corkage. Tastefully set tables. I would descibe the menu (dinner) as almost eclectic. Not large, but an emphasis on more unusual dishes, not the run-of-the-mill ones seen so often. We shares a double blue cheese souffle. Beautifully dopne, soft and featherlike and not too overpowering in terms of cheese. We each opted for the crispy duck - two generous portions and while crispy on the outside, the flesh was tender. Served with an orange and Van der Hum liqeur sause (the latter being a South African liqeur). it was served separately so as to prevent the duck becoming soggy. Vegertables just cooked - therefore crispy - without sugar added which is a disgusting South African habit. For dessdert we shared camembaert cigars in a rasberry coulis. Mmm. Afterwards sat out side - beautiful evening - drinking coffee and polishing off the last bit of wine. Were joined by Mum and daughters and ended up chatting for about another hour. I/we eat out a bit and travel a lot so have a pretty good idea of what is good and what is excellent. I would award 5 stars. If asked where my best dining experience was in the last year, I would have no hesitation whatsever nominating The Cuckoo Tree. Their telephone number: From outside South Africa: 00 28 3123430. From within: 028 3123430.
They also serve teas, breakfast and lunch. And change the menu every now and then.
