lovely little tavern, excellent food. Just like a good country pub in the UK but better cheaper food. Great atmosphere.

What a welcome discovery! Exploring the area we stumbled across this gem and opted to stop for lunch. I’m so glad we did; it was one of the best and most enjoyable meals of our two week holiday. There’s a lot of history in the pub building and a calm, tranquil atmosphere away from the tourist hubbub. Our waiter was... More

This is our fourth visit to the Bell and the food, drink and staff are excellent. The menu offers a good choice. We would especially like to thank Jeffery for his cheerfulness and efficiency. Super, duper!!!

Visited again on my most recent visit to knysna, I've been visiting for many years and have never experienced a bad meal here! Sunday lunch is great, Cobb salad is great and everything everyone else has had on my visits has been great! The biggest bonus is that they are 'dog friendly', and generally the other customers tend to be... More

The Bell Tavern gives the impression of primarily serving the nearby hotel. The authenticity of the pub experience is almost entirely lost when sitting outdoors as you sit at a picnic table and watch your food arrive from over the road, opposite the tavern itself. That being said, the food is nice and service is good. It's just a shame... More

We have been here a few times over the years. Service in the peak season can be a bit on the slow side but if you are on holiday that should not be a problem. The food was excellent and complimented by a nice wine list. Prices are reasonable and the service very friendly. A must if you are in... More

Established in 1832 this must be one of South Africa's first Taverns. Filled with old world charm but still doesn't feel old at all as you lunch under wine vines as a fresh breeze blows off the Knysna Lagoon in typical Western Cape fashion. Had Ice cold Foresters draught and delicious fish and chips in a light batter and perfectly... More
