I went with a group of three to the restaurant run by this husband (chef) and wife (front of house) team. The menu was a tasting menu with a plethora of courses that include some very interesting and very delicious offerings. Llama, alligator dishes as well as brilliantly presented seafood and vegetarian dishes. The restaurant ethos is to present locally... More

I had dinner a couple of days ago at El Baqueano with my wife. It was a pleasant experience. Creative cusine based on typical Argentinean ingredients. I'd recommended it to a friend. The price AR$1300 (about US$80) for the 9 step dinner seemed to be a little less to what you'd pay in Atlanta for a similar restaurant. Very good... More

High quality service, exciting dishes, good wine pairings. Local, and if possible ecological, ingredients. Guide Michelin is not rating Buenos Aires, but my experience is that this place is on the level of one star. Good value for money, especially on the wine pairing. Definitely worth a visit!

My work has taken me to over 45 countries, and within time (36 years), I would say I have become sort of a sybarite. That said, I think, without doubts, that I can strongly recommend this place. The food and service are quite unique. I will keep coming every time I visit Buenos Aires. Gonza

Small cozy restaurant, pleasant owners and staf, good-looking dishes featuring some unusual autochthonous ingredients (carpaccio de llama, cola de iguana,...). All in all a very pleasant and memorable experience.

My girlfriend & I booked here on the first night of a trip to Buenos Aires, and both of us agreed this was the best meal we have ever eaten. We've been fortunate to eat at some very good restaurants across Europe and the quality of the food and service was really exceptional. There was a slight error on the... More

We enjoyed a great tasting menu, partially with wine pairing. It was a very well composed and varied menu. Beautiful as well as surprising at parts. Perfect service as well.

We made a reservation as we passed by the restaurant but that night it was not fully booked. Our meal was memorable because it was a labor of love by the owner-chef and his wife who was in charge of the sitting, setting, wines, and served as our guide through every pairing and every type of food. Facts that only... More

We ate here last night and loved it... The service was fantastic and the food was 5 stars for quality and creativity. The wines were beautiful and matched nicely with the food. We didn't think it was expensive compared to back home and other places we ate at in BA that weren't anywhere near as good!

Two years ago we found El Baqueno while visiting Argentina. When we arrived, the owner unlocked the door then relocked it. For the rest of the evening, the 6 of us enjoyed a food and wine tour of Argentina. Each course and wine pairing was explained and the region associated. I have great dishes at other restaurants, but nothing to... More

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
