A disservice to such a great and historic location. Place is dirty, not maintained and the old man behind the cashier needs a shower. On the opposite corner, Starbucks getting all the clientele. I hope someone takes over such a good place. Not recommended.

Walked from the Obelisco to San Telmo and looked for somewhere to eat tgat was historic near/on Plaza Dorrego. This 'ticked' the box. Great old bar, which had me thinking of the people and events that had taken place there over the decades. Had a Lomito Completo (thin sirloin steak with lettuce, tomato, ham, cheese and a sliced boil egg... More

This is one of the city-granted "notable bars" in San Telmo district, and definitely the atmosphere takes you back to the past century (19th. century I mean), but the drinks and meals on offer are not a great choice, and the staff seem to be there just waiting for tourists to pop in as they will surely do considering the... Very authentic bar in San Telmo with a rustic and old feel. Also serve light meals and sallads. Average service. Cappuccinos were accepable. Hot sandwiches were not so good. Pretty bad and disgusting restrooms.

VERY cool old bistro on the square. Classic table service (one waiter takes care of the whole place). Old pictures of celebrities adorn the walls. Old time decor. Classic little spot. Sit down, relax, let the world pass by. Sandwiches were good. Beer (Chop) was cold, tasty and hit the spot. Perfect after a day of walking.

Enjoy a really authentic local bar, cafe and restaurant. Skip the Starbucks in the opposite of the street and go to this place to enjoy your coffee, drink and food. Very nice atmosphere, nice people and great food. You cannot miss it. ;-) Enjoy!

The first time we were here, we each ordered ham and cheese sandwiches. Each order was actually two thin sandwiches...which was entirely too much, especially when they were just okay. We brought the leftovers home. Today we stopped there because I saw a woman in the window drinking a peach shake. I echoed her order and was not disappointed. My... More

We undertook a walking tour of San Telmo and at the end of this we sat down for a quick drink in this bar. Felt really relaxed and full of atmosphere. We had a nice bottle of red as well as. Couple of local beers. Drop in, sit down, have a drink, relax

You feel as in the 50th. Nice old bar. Really al looks here as there was no evolution during the last 70 years.

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
