The menu is very inviting. Good selection of tapas. Super wine list and great service any time they are open

We went in the afternoon solely for drinks. A very nice setting, but not great service. May be better for Tango.

Lots of history and quaintness at Tortoni. Excellent service. Steaks are "average" - nothing special. Evening tango show is worthwhile seeing. Great central location. A very popular cafe where you may encounter lineups to get in.

Landmark cafe deserves your visit, soak up the history really worth it. Order a cafe and after waiting 10 minutes you realize you've soaked up enough history but still no cafe. So you get up and leave, management doesn't care because another tourist will enter as soon as you leave. An historic waiting room is more like it.

A place that is a must see and enjoy the ambiance and history of Buenos Aires. The Tortoni has been the most important gathering centre for the poets, painters and musicians.

I know it's a bit touristic but the show held here in he evening really is fantastic. The dancers are stunning and so beautiful in movement. If you're no fan of that then stop by for coffee and cake. The cakes are large in portion and the cafe architecture is not to be missed.

When visiting the Plaza de Mayo area, do yourself a favour and walk down Avenida de Mayo to Cafe Tortoni. A true "Cafe Des Arts" of Buenos Aires. Poets, painters and artists gathered there (they still do) Don"t miss it

This place is great! A lot of history and a must see while in Argentina. Its a little pricey but it was a great place to take a break and have some coffee while sight seeing. I did notice people just asking the man at the door if they could just come in for a look, which he did allow.... More

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
