We ate dinner 6:30, much too early for Spain but we were very happy with the speed and friendliness of of the service. I even liked the eggplant and I usually hate eggplant. Fantastic food, no matter what you order

We visited this restaurant on a busy Saturday night. The booking system is informal - queue or request a table on the day and return when you are told it will be available. We had very lovely, friendly and efficient service. The menu is on blackboards in Spanish and English. Everything we ordered was delicious - patatas bravas, grilled tuna, pig cheeks in red wine and meat balls. We had local red and white wine recommended which was great. Thoroughly fabulous evening and all for a reasonable cost. Highly recommended.

What a great tapas place. Always on our list when visiting tarifa. Mushrooms with a goats cheese, patatas bravas, iberico in a wine an absolute delicious and the waitresses are very nice

Recommended by staff at our hotel, we were lucky to grab a table outside on the patio as this place appeared to be quite popular. Attentive service and great food - we enjoyed the grilled squid and a fantastic chicken and couscous dish, as well as a starter salad of tomatoes and cheese. Fresh and delicious meal!

Sat down at 6:30pm (early for dinner in Spain) not expecting much and boy were we wrong. The food was amazing! We especially enjoyed the tuna meatballs and Iberian pork cheek, of which the meat was melt-in-mouth soft. Would recommend ordering a few dishes to share between the table.

TLDR: one of our favorite meals in our 2 weeks in Spain, go if you can.
The waitress was kind and helpful and gave us excellent recommendations of the patatas bravas and zucchini with pesto and mozzarella. The ambience was lovely, and the food was truly so delicious and an excellent value. Would highly recommend.

Our hotel staff recommended this small gem. The inside was half-full, for an early dinner on a cool evening. The interior is a tad scrappy (in a good way) & we snuggled up to the bar. Our expectation was mediochre street food, but it was superb. We paired our plates with local red wine followed by a dessert that is likely my favorite ever! The lime sorbet, mixed with basil leaves served on a bed of peach slivers/juice was remarkable (true confessions of a documented dessert dismisser).
The servers were also fantastic - very attentive & social. They finished our night with small snifters of local sherry. We felt like locals.
By all means take time to check out this restaurant.

Stopped in for a late dinner. We had great tapas including great stuffed mushrooms, typical but very tasty patadas bravas, and a zucchini like parmigiana. The service was friendly and timely even on a busy evening. And the location is in the heart of the action in Tarifa.

Despite the chilly air, this place was a delight sit out at night. We had a selection of tapas and a bottle of Rioja - all for €75 for four of us. Service a bit slow but the food was very good apart from the meatballs.

We popped in based on TA reviews. So glad we did. Got a table as we were quite early, but it did get quite busy later on. There are 2 chalk menus, one in Spanish and one in english. They have colour coded allergen dots. My husband is ceoliac, so we chosed gf options. We had the squid, eggplant with goats cheese, patata bravas, stuffed mushrooms, everything was absolutely delicious. Such yummy flavours. A few glasses of red wine and it was a perfect meal. Husband had the mango pannacotta for dessert. So good!! I think we will be back before we leave..

We were walking around looking for somewhere to eat and noticed the queue. Thought it must be good. Waited for our table 1 hour as agreed and boy it was worth the wait. We had the octopus, meatballs, couscous and tuna. The only dish that was not to my personal liking was the chicken cous cous. Other tables around us were enjoying so this was just personal. The other dishes were amazing. We enjoyed so much we came back on the second night.

Waited two hours for a table, from 20:30 to 22:30.
immediately ordered once at the table as had two hours to study the menu.
waited an additional hour for food. At 23:30 when food arrived, they were not understanding why I was unhappy. They barely accepted to excuse.
Left without eating.
Personally, I would avoid the place in full.

Although we barely managed to get a seat on the less cozy part of the outdoor seating area, did we very much enjoy our dinner at the Bar El Frances. The food, starting from the starters and finishing up with the mains and the wine, was simply amazing. In retrospect this was the best dinner we enjoyed in Tarifa and would definitely come again, but next time, with an advanced reservation!

Wow - there’s a reason why they have so many excellent reviews! This was my first time despite visiting Tarifa multiple times over the past couple years. Although El frances were on our radar we had never managed to get a walk in table so this time we booked well in advance which I’d recommend you to do. I cannot pick a stand out dish as they were all incredibly delicious. Portions are big and definitely made for sharing as you need to try everything on their menu! I would order the calamares, albondigas de atun and berenjenas again for sure. Will just let the pictures speak for themselves…

I visited Tarifa several times but i could not eat here because they always were fully booked. Now we were lucky and we found a table. I understood why they are full of people. This restaurant is amazing and the food was great and delicious.
