Disappointed the pictures show a very different story - service slow, ingredients were of a poor quality. Better available for less.

This place is nothing short of incredible. I randomly landed there last-minute and I couldn't have had a better dining experience. The staff is amazing, very well prepared to answer any detailed question you might have about anything on the menu. Endless selection of beers...More

Went on a busy Sunday and were impressed with the welcome we and our dog were given. We had mains and deserts and most of us had roast beef as the main. It came with a decent sized yorkshire pudd, a couple of thin slices...More

Just had early evening drinks with friends and had a welcome even though not dining. This pub still retains a friendly pub atmosphere which most places serving food don’t welcome you if you just want a drink.

We went here for the first time for lunch. We were impressed by the setting, the gardens, and that a member of staff came out to the garden to meet us. The staff were bright, helpful and efficient. The food was very good, and our...More

We arrived on a wet Saturday evening to find a fire in the grate - very welcome! The welcome and service from the staff was very good and consistent throughout the meal. The food has many locally sourced ingredients - including "wobbly bottom goats cheese"...More

Description
From the banks of the Thames take the short trip up the winding hill to Bovingdon Green and the warm, wooden heart of award-winning The Royal Oak. Oak by name and oaken by nature - but not hard or austere: not a bit of it. Bare floorboards and ancient timbers ooze bonhomie, it feels like someone's home - it might as well be yours for the time you are there. Like old friends visiting for dinner, the welcome is easy and relaxed. It's journey's end.
