We were visiting the area from Leeds for a walking weekend & found this little number on trip advisor. The menus relatively small but there’s plenty of variety, it’s all cooked fresh and the service was really good. The decor and atmosphere was good on Saturday evening. The food was brilliant - price wise slightly more than I’d normally pay - but two courses and a drink each for £70.00 for the quality and taste was well worth it - recommended for something special ! Only slight downside for the restaurant staff is no tip option on the card payment machine !!!!

We stayed two nights bed breakfast which included the ‘Residents Dining Menu’ on the first night.
It is a lovely comfortable Boutique Hotel with friendly helpful staff, who even carried our bags to the room for my wife whilst I went to park our vehicle.
We thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Resident Dining Menu’, which was included in our Winter Stay Offer. It was a 5 Course Menu which started with Artisan Bread with flavoured butter and hummus. The Amuse Bouche was selected by the chef to compliment our next course. I received Braised pork cheeks with cider potato, apple butter and roast celeriac. It was absolutely delicious and not something that I would have ordered if given the choice.
The starter I selected was Wood Pigeon breast, again delicious, there were eight starters to choose from.
My main meal was from a choice eight, I chose the Cumbrian lamb rump with charred carrots, pomme dauphine, goat’s curd and samphire, truly another delicious course. My dessert was Orange and Cinnamon Creme Brûlée, after finishing my our meal I was full, but so pleased with all I had chosen.
Our breakfast was served by Rachel, who was so friendly and could not do enough for you. Nice fresh croissants, cereals and more. The cooked full English set me up for the day.
I would most certainly eat here again, the presentation, quality and taste of the food was outstanding.

Thank you for leaving us such a complimentary review. We really appreciate feedback on our menus so that we can adapt to what our guests enjoy. Sam, our Head Chef likes to experiment with different taste combinations using local produce where possible so he will be delighted that you enjoyed your choices. Rachel will be chuffed with a mention too.

We really enjoyed our stay here with our dog. We were in the loft room at the top which was comfortable and spacious. You cannot park near the hotel but they do give you a parking permit. Breakfast is to order and there isn’t much choice but it’s nice and well cooked. They make the dog feel welcome and the location is great as there are a number of pubs and shop closeby. What we did find strange is when we arrived we couldn’t get any food and not even a packet of crips so we had to go to the Spa next door. But all in all it’s nice and service is good

We ate at Platos recently with two friends,and were disappointed with their new main course choices as the fish and chips had been taken off the menu.
All four members of our party ordered different dishes as an alternative.
When our food arrived it was somewhat disingenuous in its description. The portions were minute and could quite easily have been served on a side plate.
We all enjoyed the quality of what was served but were still hungry when we left the restaurant.
When we remarked to the staff about the tiny portions and inflated prices (small chicken breast with some jus £22)
The staff just shrugged their shoulders!
Very disappointed in their new approach as have always been satisfied in the past.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review and I am sorry that you did not enjoy our new menu. We have had only positive feedback so far, but accept that we cannot please everyone. Our chicken dish is – Goosnargh chicken breast, leek, Paris brown mushroom, truffle and parmesan potato, black onion puree 17.00 - your guest did not like many of the items with the dish and requested not to have them. Our sister hotel Longlands Hotel and Cottages serves beer-battered haddock and triple cooked chips.

The anticipation of perfection outweighed the dismal experience. The website suggested an up market dining experience and one that both myself and my partner were looking forward to after a day at the lakes. However, we were left disappointed with both the food and the service. Whilst we understand these are ‘different times’ an establishment that still advertises itself at a certain standard should still strive to achieve this. Our experience of the restaurant consisted of 10sqft as we entered and were then ushered to the window by the door rather than into the restaurant itself. Whilst the initial drink order was taken efficiently the wait for any further service was long. The person who greeted us was more concerned with his mobile device and making the front door stay open(leading to a very cold dining experience for us sitting next to the door) than his customers. We, as well as others, were made to feel like we were inconveniencing the staff. Whilst this could be excused if the food was exceptional unfortunately it wasn’t. We ate a mediocre dinner, had a poor experience and came away disappointed.

I feel that to expect perfection is a little unrealistic and might encourage extreme high hopes that cannot be fulfilled in a dining experience in the middle of a pandemic? Did you speak to us regarding your disappointment during the evening so that we could have closed the door/checked what other tables were available/changed your meal? We are all trying our best, life is different and with a little patience, we hope to be able to offer a great service to our guests and would really appreciate feedback at the time when we can respond correctly to your requests and put right our mistakes. Thank you for pointing out about the mobile phones – we have been using these as a means of contact and communication throughout service but appreciate that this must look like we are ignoring our guests, we will correct this immediately. If you would like to try us again please call and request the table you would prefer and we hope we can do better next time.

Me and my partner booked a table for Saturday night. We arrived just before our time and were seated at our table straight away with menus. It then took 20 minutes to be asked if we would like a drink. When we finally ordered our drink we ordered our starters too, which came quite quickly and to be fair were very good. Then came our mains which were quite disappointing. I had lamb and my partner had feather blade beef. The meat was cooked extremely well on both dishes but completely lacked taste and flavour as did everything else on the plate. We had been given a voucher as a present to spend here which covered both main meals thankfully otherwise it would have been a complete let down if we had had to pay for everything. Will be in no rush to return unfortunately.

We ordered two mackerel starters for £9 each. We asked for the head and tail to be removed expecting to receive a whole fish. We should not have bothered as what we received was a portion so small it was the size of a finger. The main was OK but fine dining at this price is not fair. We mentioned it to the waiter and all he said was "I will inform the chef"

We are on holiday and looking forward to a nice meal with good service. Unfortunately the restaurant had obviously struggled to get staff, and although each individual were polite and helpful there appeared to be no one managing , so the staff that had experience were overloaded and our waiter, a young man who was on his first shift , tried his best but had obviously been given no training. Although the food was well presented , quality was severely lacking and it was not value for the £96 bill . A very disappointing evening

We had an evening meal and couldn’t fault it. I had the chicken served with roasted cauliflower cheese and My husband had the pork loin served with chorizo and red pepper sauce. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. Very nice, comfortable restaurant and great service. The food and drinks are reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed a fabulous meal here early on NYE. Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection and presented immaculately. Staff where friendly and the service was good. Good quality chilled wine and no over charging just because it was NYE which meant happy customers therefore we left a good tip. Looking forward to visiting again 😊

Having spent a fabulous night out at Plato's I felt I should write a review. The restaurant is very covid compliant, but that doesn't take away from ambience which is really friendly and relaxed. The food was really good - a wide variety of tastes to suit everyone. I had the monkfish which was cooked to perfection. The cocktails were beautifully presented and the wine, recommended by Alex, was divine and really complimented the food. All in all a great evening and we will certainly return.

We arrived for our meal at the allotted time (which Plato’s changed the day before, we had booked at 7.30 and they changed it to 8pm) only to find no tables set for us. When eventually we got settled and we’re handed menus we were told that menu had changed that day and it was very limited for our taste. The waitress was extremely disorganised and not prepared to listen to our order, when we asked her for our bill she walked past us when my husband clearly asked her for it. We were charged £7.50 for one portion of vegetables that the menu stated it was £4. The whole experience was disorganised and spoilt a special occasion.

Just had such a great evening at Platos. The menu looked fabulous with so many lovely dishes it was hard too choose! The staff were attentive and friendly without being too over the top and once the food arrived we were all blown away. Top class.
The Covid rules were explained and very present but did not spoil the atmosphere.
We all had an amazing meal and will be back. Thank you for a lovely evening, it was just what we all needed.

Visited Kirkby Lonsdale a few times recently and visited a variety of different venues around the village. Out of all of those I’ve visited, Platos is by far, the most Covid secure.
I have never felt more comfortable whilst dining out recently. Masks and/or face shields worn by all staff and customers when necessary. Even better, upon booking we were reminded/asked about households, due to government guidelines. When we arrived the staff double and triple checked with us regarding this, Boris would have been proud!
This was an amazingly positive start to and even more amazing evening. Great, delicious and generous portions of a beautiful menu all served with a smile and a great demeanour. Staff were knowledgeable of all products, and polite. Food was top notch and could not be faulted one bit.
This place puts so many other restaurants to shame in regards to food quality and Covid compliance! Keep up the great work guys, we can’t wait to be back! Go team Platos!

Following a phone call from the New Inn at Yealand who are closed, at their suggestion we changed to Platos in Kirkby Lonsdale which is part of the same chain. We had not been here before and were a bit wary of what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised at the whole experience. Tables were very well spaced apart, staff attentive, food excellent and good sized portions for turkey sunday lunch. We will definitely be back.
